Pull teeth out to straighten it out?
In order to correct the alignment of teeth there must be sufficient space to shift the teeth during orthodontic treatment. If they are crowded already, common practice is to create space by extracting the bi-cuspid's or the pre-molars. These are the smaller teeth in front of your larger molars.

The teeth may shift some on their own when a space is created, but it wouldn't be enough to correct the problem. Orthodontic treatment is always required to move the teeth into their correct alignment on both the upper and lower arch.

Removing healthy teeth isn't always required. When we can we will create space using an appliance. Your treatment will be based on your teeth and yours alone. Not everyone has the exact same treatment; what is good for one may not work for you. I would advise you follow your dentist advice, he knows what is best for your particular problem.
Reply:By molar teeth I assume you mean your wisdom teeth or 3rd molars. It will help the crowding from getting worse but it will not correct the damage already done. If you were taking out pre-molars the rest of the teeth would naturally want to shift to fill the space but it will not look like straight teeth are suppose to look like. The only way you can achieve that is to have braces.
Reply:My orthodontist wanted to do this to me as a teen... if they had it wouldn't have made an ounce of difference...

I had braces - it fixed everything... and I didn't have to have healthy teeth removed for no reason.
Reply:Hello, it's not a common practice to pull teeth to achieve a better alignment, but in some cases that is indeed the procedure that needs to be done. So, YES, pulling a tooth may be required to allow other teeth to be properly aligned as they grow in place. You should see an Orthodontist for a proper diagnosis. He or she is the best qualified dental professional to determine what course of action should be taken to produce the best tooth alignment for you. Good luck and I wish you well.
