Have you ever had your teeth pulled?

i am getting three teeth in a row(on the same day)pulled next week

so i can get my braces some time soon, what should i expect when i am having my teeth pulled and what will happen afterwards.

thanxs very much.

Have you ever had your teeth pulled?
Dont be worried, 5 year old children can go through it so im sure you can. it really depends which teeth are being pulled, if they are on the bottom and are molars particually at the back of your mouth the needle tends to hurt a little bit more. When they give you the needle it isnt that bad, just try not to think about it and concentrate on something else. Moving your toes and fingers helps because it takes your mind off it.

When your teeth are extracted the dentist will push down on the tooth, so you will just feel pressure. Then a slight crack and its over. trust me its nothing compared to when you are getting an infected tooth pulled because the infection doesnt allow the needle to work. So it could be alot worse.

Afterwards you will have to keep a roll in your mouth until the bleeding stops and then it will be numb for an hour or so depending on the type of needle you got. Try not bite your tongue, lip etc.

Good luck
Reply:Slight pain after the medication begins to wear off. Minor swelling. Take some ibuprofen or asprin.
Reply:Could be a bit tender for a couple of days. if you smoke try not too after extraction ,get a new tooth brush to clean with as you dont want any unnecessary germs in your mouth, dont drink hot beverages after or for a day or so and rinse your mouth out every 4 hours with very warm salty water
Reply:There will be soreness for a few days. You'll need to be careful what you eat. You're doctor/dentist will more than likely give you a small amt of pain medicine to ease the soreness.
Reply:You will feel some tugging and pulling but you should not feel any pain - if you do have your dentist give you more meds.

for the first few days your mouth will be sore so try to eat soft foods.

make sure you rinse your mouth often with salt water - helps with healing.

I had all my top teath pulled out at the same time due to a car wreck - the doctor gave me meds. for afterward but I didn't need them - heck I was eating chips within 2 days.
Reply:The doctor gave me enought novacaine to numb me, but the worst part was just hearing the tooth come out and feeling the strength he and his assistant had to use to pull the tooth. It was sore for a week or two but ibuprophen kept it in check.
Reply:little amount of pain has to b there but it's an okay process.think of how good u'd look after u have ur braces
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled before they even broke out of the gum. When I had mine pulled they gave me a local anesthetic in my arm where they were going to put the IV in. I hardly felt the prick because they had already put the mask around my mouth and nose that knocks me out. I've heard sometimes they have you count backwards from one hundred but they didn't do that for me. I did it in my head anyway just to see how long it took me to fall asleep. I think I got down to 95. Next thing I know the nurse is helping me put my shirt on. I was very drowsy for the rest of the day and someone had to help me change the gauze. I didn't have any pain till later. I had to go back in because they had put medicinal gauze in to fill in the holes where the teeth were and they had to pull those out and then they gave me this thing to keep the holes clean so they healed properly. The worse thing about the whole ordeal was not the pain but the bad taste from the medicine. It was a yellow grainy sort of stuff. It took days to get it all cleaned out and I wasn't allowed to use things like straws for a whole month.
Reply:Do NOT take aspirin! In fact, if your doctor has not already told you this, you should not take aspirin for one week before or after a tooth extraction. Aspirin thins the blood and you'll bleed more.

No, the shots don't hurt at all. The dentist/orthodontist will numb the area inside your mouth before you get the shot. You'll barely even feel it. You might have some pain and bleeding immediately after the extraction. It should only last a few hours and you'll have a wad of gauze in your mouth to soak up the blood. The swelling lasts about a week.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions on what to do and when to do it before you leave the office. (rinsing with salt water, soft foods only, etc.) You should receive pain medication. Take it! If you wait until it starts hurting, it's too late. I made that mistake (trying to be tough).

You probably won't feel like doing much for the rest of the day and possibly the day after. By the third day or so, you'll start feeling better other than that woozy feeling from the drugs. It's not that bad.
Reply:If you are just going to a regular dentist, not an oral surgeon, they will use a topical anesthetic cream/paste/gel type of substance put on the gum with a cotton swab before giving you the novacaine shot. This will numb the area so you hardly feel the shot. For three teeth, you will likely have multiple shots, so the topical anesthetic really helps alot! Also, close your eyes! If you don't see the needle, you probably won't even feel it. All the answers I have read here are pretty much true, and even though it will seem scary at the time, it will be over soon. Afterwards, one of the most important things you can do is not suck anything, like a straw, because suction could dislodge the blood clot that will form in the gum. If that happens, (a condition known as "dry socket") you will know because it will have started feeling better for a few days, and then feel much, much worse. Keeping your tongue out of the hole helps too. It takes a couple of months for the gum to completely close where the tooth used to be. Good luck!
Reply:I have had three in a row pulled ALWAYS ask for pain meds, it is better to have them and not use them then to not have them and need them. Do NOT smoke, drink from a straw or drink hot liquids for the first 24 hours. if you do you could develope a dry socket. A dry socket is when the blood clot that forms in the opening where the tooth was comes out. It is very painful, I REPEAT VERY PAINFUL. Other wise get pain meds, do not smoke, and it will be ok.
Reply:it really depends on the dentist. with some you could feel some ache and with others u cant feel a thing. but in the end regardless if u felt the pain or not, your dentist will have to give u some kind of medication to calm any further pain. dont drink or eat anything hot or warm, eat and drink cool stuff for a while

Hope this helped, God bless u and goodluck
Reply:i had 6 teeth pulled on the same day. they numbed the gum with some gel stuff then they gave me some needles. i dont kno how many, i think one for each tooth. i didnt feel most of them, the ones i did feel were like a tiny prick. then they waited till my gums were numb and pulled the teeth. i didnt feel it, only a little bit of pulling and pushing. afterwards it was a bit sore but not tooo bad , just like when u normally loose a tooth but deeper holes. they bleed a fair bit and i would wake up for about a week and there would be blood on my pillow, but they didnt really hurt too much after the first couple of days. they stung a bit when i ate some foods and really hot stuff (hot as in degrees not hot as in hot food like chilli lol)
