Teeth pulled out?

i got two teeth pulled out yesterday and its hurts and its bleeding a lot. Is there anything i can do for it to heal faster??

Teeth pulled out?
If you are still bleeding today, bite on a WET teabag for 20 minutes. The tanic acid will help the blood to clot. If this does not help call your dentist he may have to pack the area with a medicated packing.
Reply:it all takes time but they say that if you drink pineapple juice it helps the healing process it helped my son when he knocked his teeth out in a bike crash.
Reply:After having a tooth extracted the patient should be given the following post op instructions.

For the following 24 hours avoid washing the mouth out,

dont drink any hot drinks(this will disturb the blood clot and encourage bleeding) dont drink alcohol, avoid aspirin as a pain killer as this thins the blood and will also encourage bleeding.

It's natural for there to be some discomfort after an extraction and some bleeding, remember your blood will mix with your saliva and this often seems like there is a lot of blood, however if there is a lot of blood it may be a Secondary Hemorrhage, this can occur a few days after an extraction and is usually caused by an infection at the site of the extraction.

Call your dentist and get an appointment just to check that there is nothing more sinister going on and put your mind at rest!

Teeth pulled?

does it hurt to get your teeth pulled? and what does it feel like? and also do u think 16 is to old to have ceramic braces like would it look weird?

Teeth pulled?
Lots of questions there!!

1. Does it hurt. -- It can. I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, two were impacted (way down in the bone) and there was pain for 3 or 4 days. After that, the pain pretty much went away. However I later had another tooth pulled, and there wasn't much pain on that one at all. So it really depends. If your teeth aren't impacted and if you are young, chances are it won't be too bad. Especially if you do it during the summer and don't have to go to school or work afterwards.

2. What does it feel like. When they are taking the teeth out they can either use more of a local, or a general painkiller. I don't remember anything under the general (wisdom teeth) but I remember what it was like with the local. It really didn't hurt at the time, it felt like tugging. Kind of like pulling a splinger out. I felt it but it didn't hurt.

3. Ceramic braces at 16? No it wouldn't look wierd. Wierd is ceramic braces at 25 because you chose not to get them at 16. While they are noticeable, they aren't as bad as the traditional metal braces. Most people won't notice them much.

Click the link below for more information on the ceramic braces.
Reply:im 14 and ive had 10 teeth extracted. it doesnt feel great to ahve them pulled out. but its not awful. now it DOES hurt when they pull the crown off yer tooth and yer roots are still in there.. lol tht happened to me but i had an inexperienced dentist. it shouldnt happen otherwise. its never too old to have things done, and if people think you look weird, tell em theyre just jealous coz in a while youll look better than them :]
Reply:i don' tknow about the braces part, but i've gotten several teeth pulled. first of ll it depends on wheteher they're baby teeth or adult teeth. if you're 16 then they're probably adult teeth, which hurt more to get pulled. it doesn't hurt to when your teeth actually get pulled out because they give you painkillers through a nedle into your gums. that part hurts a bit

when you go home you mouth will be bleeding alot and you can't eat hard food on account of you might might through your lip because you can't feel it. after a while the drugs start to wear of and your mouth slightly aches, but that's all.

good luck!
Reply:I had 5 teeth pulled last year.

None of them hurt. My destist injected a lot of novacaine and it really numbed it up fine. I could feel some pressure as he pulled but it wasn't anything I would describe as pain.

I had 7 teeth pulled on 10/01/07 and I was hospitalized for strep throat yesterday. Could the two be related?

A friend of mine was saying that when I had my teeth pulled, the infection could have built up in my system and caused strep throat. I went to a county hospital that has a dental school (dentists that have their degrees, but are sort of in an internship). They are all supposed to be "real" dentists because I asked them. They gave me antibiotics to take 3 months before my oral surgery appointment (that's how long it took me to get in). Then after they pulled my teeth they told me to take hydrocodone for pain, and they gave me an oral rinse. Several days later I was having mild pain. I went back in and they said everything was healing fine, and that they had to remove some of the bone in my gums. They said rinsing with the medicated rinse should suffice. When I went to the ER yesterday, they said that was the worse case of strep throat they had seen in a long time. I had to say overnight and they pumped antibiotics through the IV all night.

Anything is possible, however in this case, not too likely. It is that time of the year when people come down any number of nasty bugs and strep throat is seemingly running rampid this fall. The fact that you had antibiotics before your extractions killed anything that may have been running through you at the time. This is standard procedure in multiple extractions, especially if some of the teeth to be pulled are already infected. It could have been that you were in a fragile state health-wise while you were recovering which could have lent an advantage to the strep. Most likely it's just a case of bad timing.

Hope you are better soon.

Need to get some teeth pulled and scared about it?

i need to get some teeth pulled because my mouth is to small for all my teeth i need to have like 5 teeth pulled and the one is trying to come up underneth another one and its causing my gum to split its all sore and puffy ... i was wondering what all they are going to have to do and if its going to hurt really bad ...im a single mother i have a 1 year old am i going to be able to take care of him after i have all of this done?

Need to get some teeth pulled and scared about it?
I had the exact same problem as you are describing. While it's not fun, it's not awful either. The worst part is the needle prick when they inject the numbing agent. You probably will have the option to have them give you a little "gas" to help you relax through the whole thing...which will make even that little discomfort barely noticeable.

You'll be able to function fine within a few hours of the procedure, although you will probably need to take painkillers for a few days. However, if you can get someone to take care of the little one for the rest of the day, that would be nice. Bu if that's not possible, you certainly will be able to do it.
Reply:Going to the dentist is never fun but we all pull throught it. I am battling myself to go to the dentist myself. I think it's the smell that get to me and the sound of the wonderful drill.
Reply:I had 4 teeth pulled when I was 14 years old. I was scared half to death, but yet i refused to be put to sleep..or take the laughing gas. So, they rubbed numbing stuff on my gums and then gave me a bunch of shots in my mouth. This doesnt hurt. It tookthem maybe...5 minutes..to get thm 4 teeth pulled... it's pretty fast.... It doesnt hurt one bit, in my opinion. I didnt feel pain even after the numbing went away. As far as it disabling you from taking care of your son... I don't see how it would.

Wisdom Teeth Getting Pulled?

I am getting my two bottom wisdom teeth pulled. They are partially impacted. And I am not getting knocked out, I am just getting a local anesthetic. I am wondering:

1. How much pain will there be and how long will it last?

2. How long should the operation last?

3. What should I be expecting when getting them pulled while awake?

4. How long will my cheeks be swollen?

5. And any additional information you may have.

Wisdom Teeth Getting Pulled?
After they're out the doctor packs gauze in your mouth. The holes where your teeth were will form clots. Leave that crap in your mouth as long as you can stand it. I cannot stress this enough: do not let those clots burst or come out! If they do, (dry sockets) you have to go back every few days to get them packed with strips of gauze soaked with clove oil. This is to stop the excruciating pain. But, if you keep your body's natural clots, it will go alot smoother. I advise you to get the prescription for at LEAST Vicodin, (I hate it when Drs try to pass off Ibuprofen on me, it's just Advil). It doesn't mean you have to get it filled, you should have it on hand in case you are in pain not during Dr's hours. I've never understood why people think they have to be "tough" like it's some contest or something. Take the narcotics- you'll be laying around unable to do anything anyway. I'm all about pain management. You only get them removed once.

Is someone there to be with you? It can be a big deal. Sorry if I scare you.
Reply:it last like 30 to 45 min's. you have to wear comfortable cloths. and don't forget to bring someone with u to help u going home. you need to buy ice cream or anything cold and liquid ur gonna need them for the first day, the second day usually better than the first one. ur gonna be tired and bleeding, but that is normal. don't worry it's just few days then I'll rest forever. he he : ) Good LuCk..
Reply:all dental procedures are all different from person to person. from experience i can tell you that there wasn't too much pain 'during' the procedure, but then again every body adapts to things differently. you can have a smooth recovery and not have little to no swollen cheeks. i would advise you, though, to eat as much as you can beforehand. don't cram your face that it makes you sick, but it will be unlikely you will be able to eat a hamburger afterwards. take care.
Reply:1. How much pain will there be and how long will it last?

Don't worry, the dentists will give you laughing gas to numb you. And just to be sure, they will touch your gums and see if you feel it.

2. How long should the operation last?

This I am not sure, but I'd be surprised if it were more than an hour. (My braces getting changed takes an hour, but time flies by!)

3. What should I be expecting when getting them pulled while awake?

You will be experiencing no pain at all. All you will feel is a little bit of pressure.

4. How long will my cheeks be swollen?

If at all, not more than a week or two.

5. And any additional information you may have.

This is a fairly harmless procedure, and if you worry too much, it's not going to help!

Hope I helped!
Reply:buy some ice cream, jello and milk and some straws as that's what you'll be surviving on for a few days. Save your money for your prescription (so it doesn't get infected and to bring down the swelling). The operation takes as long as the dentist or specialist takes. If they were totally impacted they would put you to sleep, so maybe it's not as bad at that. The doc knows what he or she is doing. I don't know that your cheeks would be swollen but your gums will be, and you may not be able to do much talking so get some books, puzzles and things ready so you won't be bored. I wouldn't think you would want to move around too much for a couple of days so hole up in your room with a frozen bag of peas (to put on your cheeks to bring down the swelling. If you're healthy it shouldn't take that long to heal. Just grin and bear it, every person goes thru that, you'll survive.
Reply:Hi, you will feel pain when you get the local injection, but its just a scratch like any needle.. they will test the area to make sure your numb, but you must tell them if you feel anything sharp before they start. During the procedure you shouldn't feel any pain, just alot of pressure, movement and some strange noises- cracking and crunching. The operation wont last that long, it depends how hard they are to get out, its usually about 20 mins under general, but because your awake it may take longer cos they're being gentle.

Your cheeks could be swollen for a couple of days to a week but should gradually go down, if they dont go down or if your pain gets worse as time goes on contact the dentist/doctor asap! Afterwards you will get bleeding and some pain, just take your Ibuprofen. On the first day, dont smoke or drink carbonated liquids, dont suck through a straw or drink anything hot. Sleep with your head slightly elevated and remember to eat foods of a soft consistancy. Rinse with a salt water solution for a few days, remembering not to rinse vigorously or spit to hard. Hope all goes well!
Reply:u shouldnt have any pain during the procedure, it may take about half an hour max. u may have some inflammation afterwards but Ibuprofin should help with any pain or inflammation. so dont worry too much.

X D
Reply:You will feel lots of pressure but not sharp pain.

Procedure should be no more than 30 minutes.

You will hear lots of cracking sounds

3rd day after surgery is the peak day of swelling and you more than likely will only have some puffiness if all goes well.

Follow all of your post op instructions and stock up on soft, mushy foods.

Provided you aren't allergic to any medication you can rotate ibuprofen with Tylenol every 2-3 hrs. Look at the schedule below for pain management.

start with:

ibuprofen%26gt;2-3hrs%26lt;tylenol%26gt;2-3hrs%26lt;ibupro...

be careful not to exceed the daily recomended dosage for each. Rotating like this will help take care of the discomfort both in the brain from the tylenol and on site with the ibuprofen.

I am getting teeth pulled. The strange part is I have braces on. How will they pull out the baby teeth? help!!

I have braces on. I need two baby teeth pulled. I have a wire on them but no bracket

I am getting teeth pulled. The strange part is I have braces on. How will they pull out the baby teeth? help!!
I worked in an orthodontic office for ten years and general for over 17 - this is just too easy. There are no brackets on your baby teeth. They will put the tooth to sleep and you'll fell pressure- like someone squeezing your hand, and you may hear a little bit of funny noise, take your IPOD= it will take about 10 seconds. Relax, it's easy.
Reply:You have to tell your orthodontists to take the brackets/wire off.

It's really not recommended to get braces when you still have your baby teeth. My friend got braces when she young, and then she had to get braces again because her teeth got crooked again.
Reply:You will need an appointment with the orthodontist ahead of time to get the wire taken off and then you will see the dentist to have the teeth pulled. Once they are pulled you need ANOTHER ortho appoinmtent to get the wires and brackets put on.
Reply:you say there is no brackets on the baby teeth

dentist must have foreseen this and thats why he /she thinks its ok to pull them

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled?

I'm going to get both of my bottom wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow and I was wondering if it is really as painful as people make it out to seem. The two wisdom teeth that i'm getting pulled are not fully exposed they are still somewhat under the gum. Is that going to make the process worse? I know the doctor will give me pain medicine but I hate feeling uncomfortable, what should I expect? Also, about how many days were you off from work and/or school before you felt alright to go back? What will I be able to eat during the healing process?

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled?
I just had all 4 of mine out on Wednesday, PLUS I had an extra tooth pulled. I was "put to sleep" for mine, under general anesthesia, because I am TERRIFIED of dentists. Some dentists(or oral surgeons) don't put you to sleep, but just numb the tooth. I would recommend being put to sleep because they just give you a shot, and give you some gas over your mouth and nose, and you fall right asleep, next thing you know it's done! The pain pills they give you will definitely help, just make sure you keep on top of taking them, or else you will be in pain if you miss a dose. The worst part of the whole thing for me was having that nasty bloody gauze in the back of my mouth, makes you want to gag. But you only need the gauze for about one or maybe two days. Two , in my case. I am on day three now and am feeling mild pain. I probably could go back to work tomorrow, but I am taking it off just in case. I did not swell one bit though. And 45 minutes after the surgery I was eating a large chocolate shake from McDonald's (don't use straws, use spoons or else you will get a painful infection called dry socket). Just make sure you have lots of jello, pudding, yogurt, mashed potatoes (instant is best, because they are easy, and trust me, you won't feel like cooking when you are all loopy from the pain meds) I am on day 3 now and I finally got down some mac n cheese. Don't get any popsicles because you'd have to suck them. If you like sherbet get a lot of that. Also, ask the oral surgeon to prescribe you some anti nausea pills to take along with the pain meds, since you won't be eating a lot of solid foods, you could get sick from the meds. You will be sleeping A LOT! Make a bed up on the couch and watch tv and sleep all day, make sure you drink plenty of liquids...no alcohol though, and make sure you don't have anything tomatoey for about a week, because of all the acids it will burn your gums....let's see...no spicy foods, no cigarettes, no carbonated beverages. I think that is it.

The surgery part doesn't hurt one bit. And if you keep on top of taking your pain pills, you won't feel a bit of pain. My oral surgeon told me to take 2 advils every time I took a pain pill, to keep the swelling to a minimum.

Hope this helps, sorry to babble on! :) Good luck! Oh yeah, ask them if you can keep your teeth so you can see how huge they are, lol. They gave me mine, pretty nasty though.
Reply:Make sure you dont have any plans for the weekend.

You will be staying home in bed
Reply:Getting my wisdom teeth pulled was pure heaven for me. I've never been one for drugs but my goodness they were heavenly. Get the Nos gas and the vicatin drip...yum. Then they give you these horse tranques (not really but close). The only thing sucks is washing with that stupid squirter. Some people obviously go through different experiences but mine was just fine. Make yourself some green jello (green is my fav) and have someone drive you back home. He he
Reply:Just make sure the other tooths beside it does not sink slop sided other wise you will need to see an orthodontics to keep the back tooths straight up with braces. You will be ok from the pain, it didn't take long before pain is gone. Yet, make sure you have plenty of time off, because you won't be able to talk very well for a while. They will tell you to drink supplements like Slim Fast, or Boost drinks with flavors like chocolate and strawberry. I lost weight from drinking that stuff only which was the only thing I could pretty much have. Good Luck and God Speed on recovery.
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled, as the bottom ones didn't erupt fully. (I'm surprised you are only getting the bottom ones done, as my doctor said I couldn't get away with that. But it was a long time ago, so advice may have changed.) You will not feel too great for a solid two days. I slept a lot. I don't remember much real pain, but aches and some bleeding. You won't feel like chewing. Eat soups and soft foods that don't require much or any chewing, as the jaw joint will be sore for a while and there will be stitches.
Reply:I had all 4 pulled in college on a Thursday so I had Friday plus the weekend. I think I went to class Monday. It was painful. Make sure you use ice packs to keep the swelling down. Take your medication get lots of sleep. I had a craving for a chocolate shake after I got mine pulled. Lots of fluids, soup, jello, macaroni and cheese. Anything you don't really have to chew. Good luck!
Reply:I had all 4 of mine pulled at once, they were what they called impacted. They were hurting me so bad that it could not get any worse. I was put to sleep during the process so naturally I didn't feel a thing. They sent me home with a few pain pills but I never felt I needed them. I felt great compared to how I felt before they took them out. Naturally they tell you to go home and take it easy after you have been put under but within a few hours I had no trouble doing anything I normally do. I did crush ice and suck on ice and it keeps the swelling down.

People have a habit of putting the fear of god in someone over something that is really no big deal. If getting a couple teeth pulled is the biggest pain you ever have you will be very, very, lucky. I'm sure when its over you will wonder why you even worried about it.
Reply:Had my left ones taken out not too long ago. The procedure itself is kind of uncomfortable but not overly so, I hear a lot of horror stories which I think are blown way out of proportion. The only thing that bothered me was it felt like my jaw was gonna break a few times. Other then that it wasnt that big of a deal, I thought for sure I was gonna need the pain killers I was prescribed but I didnt need to take a one and I had almost no pain the days after.
Reply:It can be painful, but you will be glad when it is over.

normally the oral surgeon will put you under general anesthesia, you won't feel anything

When you wake up you will just feel sleepy, and need someone to drive you home

You will experience some bleeding, swelling, and bruising

the Dr will give you pain meds as well as an anti-biotic for the infection.

you will have some pain and be sore for a while

the first day you can only eat cold, like ice cream, yogurt, etc

you can drink but not thru a straw.that could make you have a dry socket and that is really painful

the second day you can eat warm soft foods

after that just eat normally, but be careful of the sore area

Since they are not exposed, they will need to be cut out and you will need stitches.

after about 3 days you should be back to normal

you will do fine, I'm sure

Teeth pulled?

I just got two teeth pulled 3 and 1/2 hours ago..... how do i stop the bleeding i have been putting the new gause in but it wont stop?

Teeth pulled?
try not to touched with your tongue and rinse your mouth with water and the most important as I say don't touched with your tongue and try to sleep and tomorrow will be a new day and again don't touch them with your tongue
Reply:Try wetting a couple tea bags, and biting down on them where your teeth were. If that doesn't help you need to call the Dr. and let them know ASAP. You do not want a dry socket, please be very careful.

Teeth pulled?

I have to get 2 teeth pulled in one visit and i never have before do you think i will be up for going to a bond fire after. urgent!!!!!!??????!!!!!!!! I have a school thing the day of so i was wondering because they are asking me to RSVP and I want to know if I should bother or if I should tell them I will be to "anistesiaed up"? Please respond soon!

Teeth pulled?
Extractions have become fairly routine, quick and painless. If your dentist is really efficient and professional, you should be able to carry on almost as normal once the anesthesia wears off.
Reply:No bon fire for you. After having a tooth pulled, you will need to take it very , very easy.
Reply:Lizzy,

I had my wisdom teeth pulled. You probably won't be doing anything that night. You'll be pretty drugged up. But, the good news is my tooth extraction wasn't painful. It took about an hour or so and I just chilled the rest of that day. I got my apartment the next day, in fact. But I don't think you'll make your bon fire.

You'll be fine, Matt
Reply:oh yea 1ce its pulled u MUST watch u eat i had 4 pulled so i know u will be numbed up so thats fun no pain tho afterwards just watch wat u eat
Reply:You should be able to go to our school bon fire unless you have anesthesia(knocked out), but if you have a local, you should have no problem going. Believe it or not, when my teeth were pulled(3 at a time) It actually felt better afterwards, than before. The shots in the mouth will cause you to be sore and hard to open your mouth wide for a few weeks but then it will subside. I would keep a close eye on your gums and see if they bleed, or if you have stitches, follow our dentist's instructions if you have stitches or bleeding. Eat very soft foods and lots of liquids help since it is always stressful to get teeth pulled. I would also recommend a mild pain reliever like tylenol or advil if you are in pain or discomfort afterwards, hot packs on the jaw will also eleviate some soreness. I hope you can go to your bonfire and have a good time.
Reply:You could probably go to the event, but won't be in a great mood. You'll still have some discomfort just from getting the teeth pulled, but the pain won't stop you from going. It's more up to you if you want to be in public when you might not be in the best mood, ya know!?

Do I need my wisdom teeth pulled out?

I haven't been to the dentist for a long time because I'm really scared of them but I will need to go soon because my teeth are really bad now. I know I've got a lot of cavities that need fixed and I have quite big cavities in my wisdom teeth. I was talking to my friend about it and she said I'd have to get my wisdom teeth pulled out because they don't do fillings in them.......is that true????

I'm really scared of getting fillings because when I was 15 I had to get two filiings and the dentist thought they were small cavities and did them without anaesthetic but one was actually a lot bigger than he thought and I was in a LOT of pain. But I'm even MORE scared about the thought of getting teeth pulled out, so I need to know is what my friend said is true or not.

Do I need my wisdom teeth pulled out?
You're the person who said 6 days ago that you had taken an overdose aren't you????

Lady, you NEED your wisdom teeth......... you are one depraved individual.

If you were serious about the OD, you need to tell your dentist, as he may give you drugs that actually may end up killing you.

Hmmmmm, there's a thought for you.

Get help either way.
Reply:Yes, get them pulled
Reply:well I'm paranoid of needles and i had one out at dentist wasn't that bad
Reply:Ask for general anasthesia when they pull them out--you'll be totally asleep the whole time. If they have cavities, I feel it will be easier to just have them pulled out rather than have them filled.
Reply:The dentist will recommend if they should be out. I'm so glad that mine are out. Who needs them - I say get 'em out.

My brothers' mouths were big enough that they didn't have to have theirs removed. They could have just asked me - I knew their mouths were big enough.

Me - the litttle mouth in the family - they were out at 18, I'm glad. I'm better off without 'em.
Reply:I've had all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled out because they were hurtin like a son on a *****. They serve no purpose and if they start hurtin you, get them out. The pain will only get worse till you do.

Hey chrissie. how the hell did you not get your swear word asterisked? And they * my swear. Son of a ***** ***** *****.
Reply:Depends how bad they are... God I love going to the dentist... even though one of them ****** up 2 of my teeth and I had to get a root canal done... but your mouth feels so refreshed and clean afterwards... You can get fillings in your wisdom teeth, it just depends how bad they are... you wont know for sure until you actually go and see the dentist and see what s/he suggests
Reply:just go to your dents don't be scared and they will check your teeth and if your wisdom teeth need to be out they will let you know
Reply:well i will give you some advice because my mum is a dentist she said that if they are hurting you they will need to get check by someone but if you have big cavities in your wisdom teeth you will need them out.
Reply:Looks like you have had bad experience with your dentist. Get another dentist to check your teeth and get his opinion. Pulling out a wisdom tooth is not as painful as you think providing that they inject pain killers into your gum. Your gum will feel very cold and numb and that will be the good time your dentist will pull them out. The pain will only wear off after 20 mins or so. To relieve the pain, try using ice pack and wrap them with a cloth and place on your cheeks. The pain will be totally gone by next day. Meanwhile have only porridge so that your mouth will not hurt so badly after that.
Reply:Darn! I got my answer all written up and my wireless went out! I will try again:

You will probably need to have those wisdom teeth pulled, especially if they have cavities. My dentist told me that insurance usually won't pay for fillings in wisdom teeth, as they think they should just be pulled. I still have all my wisdom teeth (and I'm old!) so not everyone has to have them removed, only if they don't come in right. My daughter had all of hers removed, with absolutely no problems at all. But I have heard of others who have alot of swelling afterwards.

Your dentist will help to make you confortable for any work he/she does. Ask your friends who they go to for dental work, and if they would recommend them. Look in the yellow pages under dentists, and you might find one that specializes in no pain, no shots, things like that.
Reply:All right princess, suck it up and get your butt to the dentist. Would you rather have a mouthful of disgusting rotten teeth? And guess what - tooth and gum disease have now been linked to more serious things like heart disease and strokes.

I had my wisdome teeth pulled with no freezing or anesthetic (long story) and I lived.
Reply:Yes, please get your wisdom teeth out now, you will feel better %26amp; really dude, it is not that bad. I had mine out not too long ago %26amp; it went so smooth, not bad at all. Get it taken care of now %26amp; you won't have to worry about it later! Trust me, I was scared too but once its done you'll be glad you went ahead %26amp; just did it.
Reply:most of the time the mouth does not have room for wisdom teeth and they need to be extracted. if theres plenty of room, yes, they will fill them,, if they are badly decayed, no,, theres no point, go to a good dentist where u live, call 1800 dentist. they recommend dentists for cowards.. seriouisly, im the biggest dental coward there is, and my dentist does not hurt me one bit. root canals , fillings , shots,, all is good!! :)
Reply:have to pull em out or else the whole arrangement of the teeth will be disrupted and you'll have to wear braces then
Reply:They will probally pull them, they say your back teeth are not very strong now that we don't use them for grinding bamboo shoots and stuff. I personally find getting a tooth pulled to be easier than getting a filling. And by all means you have the right to stop the freaking doctor and say look you moron that freaking hurts give me something now. You are paying them to do a service for you.
Reply:luckily your friend is not the one who would make that decision, but seriously you need to see a dentist who would make an objective assessment as to whether you would need your teeth out or not.

if you are nervous there are several ways to help you including intravenous and inhalation sedation, general anaethetic, premedications etc your dentist will discuss all these options with you
Reply:Hi there,

This is just of my own experience. I had the same problem as yours.

When I was at the age of 16, I was told by a dentist who done checking in my school that I had a wisdom tooth that needs filling or otherwise it will get worst. I had the same feeling as yours against visiting dentist and so I just ignore the advice.

Now, after 10 years, my wisdom tooth has gone really really bad that I couldnt do any filling but to pull it out. The cavity was so large that my tooth was broken apart while the dentist was attempting to pull it off. End up that I had to undergo minor surgery. The process, however, had taught me one thing. That you should not wait any longer if you know that your teeth need filling(especially wisdom teeth) or else you will end up like me, I did learn my lesson though. Also you should consult a dentist that you really trusted and feel comfortable with. The dentist that tried to pull out my wisdom tooth was so rude and so rough that it really hurt a lot during the process. I do have friends that told me that it didnt hurt a bit. So this should means that it should depends on the dentist that you have chosen. So do not visit your last dentist who gave you so much pain even when you were only getting fillings.

Hope this helps, do not wait any longer.

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled!!?

Ok so I'm getting laughing gas when I get my teeth pulled. And I was wondering will I be like completely out of it or will I at least know what I'm saying?? I don't want to say something really stupid..LOL. Trust me I've heard stories about this. Anyways what your take on this, what happened to you when you got you teeth pulled?? Thanks!!

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled!!?
I had gas to get a tooth pulled...you are awake, and coherent, and will know what you are saying....it really does make you laugh!! It just takes the edge off, they will have your tooth out in like 2 minutes! You will be fine!!

I am opting to get put to sleep though with the wisdoms!

Good luck!
Reply:Dont worry about the Gas get your pain medication BEFORE you get them done.Your face could swell up and you will be spitting blood for a day or so.

Good Luck
Reply:With laughing gas you will be able to communicate but you wont be talking about anything important that's for sure. The dentist or nurse will be asking you questions and looking how you answer them, that's just one way they know what level your at but here's the scoop...you will not have any recognition of time, you may know bits and pieces of what they're doing but believe me when I tell you that you WILL NOT CARE!! and about the time you think they are about to get started, you'll be walking into the recovery room waiting for your ride. Good luck to you.
Reply:They only ask you yes or no questions You won't even know its happening

Haha and trust me the only thing you should worry about is the aftermath XD I am sure if you say anything rediculous it will come out as mmffsfklsssssss because you will be too swollen and a little "drugged up" too much for anyone to even understand you.

I heard all I said was a little be of nonsense talking to my self but mostly silence.

lol good luck!
Reply:Laughing gas does take the edge off when you are under the spell of the gas. You will have the sensation of floating in air or something similar. If you have time before your wisdom teeth extraction date, talk to your parents and call your dentist or the oral surgeon doing the extractions and ask about oral sedation along with the nitrous. I personally would recommend being put out for wisdom teeth, but it can be expensive. But, with oral sedation, you take the medication (prescribed by either the dentist or oral surgeon) the night before and then an hour before your appointment and you can walk in and walk out of the office. You will need someone to come with you and stay at the office until you are finished.

But, the the medication has an amnesia effect and you will not remember having the wisdom teeth removed.

I wish you an easy and uneventful surgery. I was put under when I had all 4 removed.
Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth out on Tuesday. I had a relaxing pill I had to take an hour before my appointment. A nurse took my blood pressure when I got in there and I asked if it was good, and she said "yes. it means you're relaxed". I can't remember if I said this or not but I remember thinking "I don't feel relaxed." Then they put the laughing gas mask over my nose. Then they shot me with novocain. The laughing gas affects people differently. It made my boyfriend drowsy when he got his teeth out. But it did make me laugh whenever I tried to talk. I felt very alert. (as i said, it does affect people differently) My doctor said during the operation when he was tugging at one of my bottom teeth "you can curse if you want to. It always helps me." When I replied "It doesn't do anything for me" I was laughing so hard that they (the doctor and nurse) couldn't understand what I said. They both laughed and the nurse said "I didn't understand a word you said". So, for me, I wasn't really out of it, and I knew what I was saying...it's just that I was laughing so hard when I tried to talk that the doctor and nurse couldn't understand me. If you're anything like me, you'll have a very clear mind, but you'll be laughing too hard for anyone to understand you. good luck on your operation.

Why do you get wisdom teeth pulled out?

i went to the dentist a few days ago for a check up and cleaning....and the dentist said i need to get all my wisdom teeth pulled out (i have 2 growing out visibly...my lower jaw and one is pretty much almost done growing out...the other is still growing)....but my wisdom teeth dont hurt at all....i asked him why i need to get them pulled out and he said because one of them is growing crooked? and its harder to clean and can have problems in the future (not just the crooked one...even if the wisdom tooth is growing fine)...but my previous dentist (we changes dentists...i dont know why...my dad made the decision...probably cause this new dentist is cheaper) that i saw last year for a check up and cleaning noticed my wisdom teeth and didnt say anything about that. he just tried poking them to see if they hurt but they dont hurt me at all so he just let me be. is my new dentist trying to take advantage of us? please help!

Why do you get wisdom teeth pulled out?
Some people never have to have them out. Unfortunately, 90% of people do.

The reason is widsom teeth grow in at an angle.

They are pointed at your back molars. When these wisdom teeth grow in they push against your molars. Not only does this cause extreme pain, but it begins to crush your molar.

Holes will appear and could possibly get infected. Serious complications can happen if your wisdom teeth push your other teeth too much.

Its not a painful procedure as they drug you up. (I was put to sleep)

After the procedure however there is intese swelling and some very painful cheeks. Be prepared for 5 days of apple sauce and soup =P

Whatever you do, do NOT use a straw! The sucking actions causes your now stiched up holes to be blown open cause massive pain and another trip to the doctors.

Good luck! One they are out you will never have to worry about them again.
Reply:yes, he could very well be!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i have had terrible experiences with dentists.

i would get three opinions before consenting....

my mouth is a wreck from these money hungry yankers.
Reply:If they are pointed toward your other teeth, they will cause you problems. Or if your mouth is just too short to have enough room for them.
Reply:SImply put, most people don't have room for them in their mouth and having teeth that far back can cause complication in cleaning. But when there is no pain, and the patient has enough room in their mouth. It simply becomes a dentists preference. Some believe that taking them out just makes more sense. Others use it as a money thing. Still others don't even bother with them. Ask your dentist to be honest with you about his opinion on if you keep them in. Ultimately it is your choice, they are your teeth.
Reply:Generally speaking, there's not enough room in your mouth for them. You see, if you alway those teeth to come in they would push on all your other teeth. Then you teeth would be crooked teeth.
Reply:He could be. It happens.

My wife took my daughter to a dentist who said she had 4 cavities. Since she brushes her teeth, my wife did not think so. She just said thank you and went to another dentist. The next one said her teeth were fine.

Some will just drill or pull good teeth for the payment. Not always, but often enough. Get a recommendation from another family.

The crooked teeth thing is possible, too. My dentist let mine stay as a teen. He later said he should have pulled them. They crowded my lower teeth while I was in college, and they have been crooked ever since.
Reply:Please, take your dentist's advice. I was very skeptical when my dentist first told me I needed my wisdom teeth removed. I waited about 4 years before I finally realized I needed them removed. I was starting to feel pain and it turned out they were starting to become impacted. It might not bother you now but if you wait too long your teeth will start to get crooked, and it can also cause nerve and bone damage. Plus you might not feel any pain now but as they start to grow in it will hurt, just as babies teethe. It wasn't the best time of my life after I got them removed but I'm glad I did!
Reply:my top 3 answer why you the 3rd molar or wisdom teeth has to go?

1. if there would be pain, any pain, be it pain on the involved tooth, or pain in the Temporomandibular Joint.

2. if it is causing harm to the involved tooth and the adjacent tooth, meaning if theres an area where mere toothbrush and floss couldnt reach tereby making that particular tooth susceptible to decay.

3. if the patient is to undergo, or have undergone orthodontic treatment and his xray shows that there would still be insuficient space for the 3rd molar to properly erupt.

just those 3 reason, if your problem falls on any of the 3, say goodbye to your wisdom teeth, however if it has no pain, no decay to occur with the adjacent teeth, you wont wear braces, no need to remove them.
Reply:some people never have problems with their wisdom teeth, but most people do. it is better to get them out while you are younger because your body is much better at healing.

but then again... i didn't pass wreb
Reply:The reason dentists tell you this is because these wisdom teeth can hurt you in the future, especially if there isn't enough room in your mouth to house them. The more they continue to push other teeth out of the way, the more you set yourself up for headaches (or even migranes), or worsened croweded teeth, which can hurt your self esteem.

You can opt to have them leave your teeth alone if they are not hurting you, however. It's up to you.

The good thing about having your teeth pulled? Mmmm...no possibility of crowding, no pain.

The bad thing about having your teeth pulled? It's minor surgery, and...well, it hurts. :(
Reply:the dentists in my city are so damn busy that i refuse to believe that they do procedures "just to get the money". they're gonna be way busy enough without faking things.

i would go to an oral surgeon for another opinion. not to a regular dentist. general dentists should NOT be pulling wisdom teeth.

as far as why we have wisdom teeth pulled, we are not cavemen anymore and do not need so many molars to survive. in the meantime, evolution is giving us smaller jaws while still trying to squeeze all 32 teeth in. for most people, wisdom teeth grow in slightly impacted (turned or twisted) and this will cause problems. i would have to agree that most people need their wisdom teeth pulled. personally, i had two pulled that were bothering me when i was 20 years old, the third has grown in and is fine (but i had braces and had other molars removed), and the fourth one has never grown. xrays show it way up in my jaw.

again, go to an oral surgeon, not a general dentist, for a second opinion and if he/she thinks they need pulled then have the surgeon do it.
Reply:I think your dentist is just trying to tell you to get them out before they start bothering you or cause any problems. Mine didn't bother me either, and when i got my braces off my orthodontist told me i better be getting them out soon because they'd push on my teeth and make them crooked. Of course i payed no attention to this and tried putting it off, but eventually they did start bothering me and they started pushing on my teeth and were making them crooked. I just had all 4 of my wisdom teeth out on Wed. and i was expecting the worst, and it wasn't bad at all. I was given 2 Triazolam pills and i hardly remember anything from the whole day. Get them out soon, your dentist knows what he's talking about. You'll save yourself the pain later.
Reply:if i were u go ask another dentist ....hve a checkup and see wat he or she says
Reply:I'd have them taken out as soon as you and your family can afford it. If you can afford it now--great! Go for it! I waited and had mine taken out when I was 21 and there was very little room left in my mouth for them. Save yourself some agony and time and get them out now. I don't know howold you are, but you reach an age (right around your early 20's) when your bones loose what little elasticity they have. That is, when you're younger your bones are softer and a little more forgiving. That is the perfect time to have major extractions.

Good luck.

Teeth pulled!!! 6 of them!! How long dose it take?

How long dose it take to get 6 baby teeth pulled ?? I wondering because I am nervous and don't want to not know when I will get out!!! Kind of like feeling traped! lol

Teeth pulled!!! 6 of them!! How long dose it take?
I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled at the same time, and that took about 45 minutes sitting in the dentist chair. Of course, I had it done by Navy dentists, since I was in boot camp. I would imagine you'll be in there for an hour and half. Oh, and it's not the procedure that is painful, it's the pain after its' all done. They'll prescribe you good medicine that you'll learn to love. Good luck.
Reply:Wow six baby teeth?Depending on where your teeth are. For example, your mouth is divided in to 4 sections. Upper right and upper left, Lower right and lower left. Your dentist can only numb one side of your mouth at a time. Because if your whole mouth is numb at one time you can bite on your tongue and this could be a hazardous to you. Hope this helps.

After wisdom teeth are pulled...?

My stiches are beginning to fallout now, but is it too early? I had my teeth pulled yesterday.

Also, how soon should i go back to school?

Im having some trouble brushing my back teeth. I cant open my mouth without a lot of pain and/or bleeding. what if i brush the fronts and use something like listerine??

Also, how long does it take for my mouth to COMPLETELY heal? Only one of my teeth were impacted.

After wisdom teeth are pulled...?
I had the exact same problem. In the beginning I had only one that was impacted and needed to be removed. My dentist at the time put stitches in and I had problems from there on out. Pain, not able to open my mouth but less than an inch, swelling you name it. Then when I had the other three removed all at once the second dentist did not put stitches in and I had no problems what so ever. You may want to check with the dentist to see if you have dry socket. It took almost two months with the first, the second time it was less than three weeks. With the stitches being back there it is too easy for food to get caught and cause infection. Go get it checked out. I made the mistake of not doing it with the first and it would have been worth it to just go in and take care of it.
Reply:n most cases, the recovery period lasts only a few days. Take painkillers as prescribed by your dentist or oral surgeon. The following tips will help speed your recovery.

* Bite gently on the gauze pad periodically, and change pads as they become soaked with blood. Call your dentist or oral surgeon if you still have bleeding 24 hours after your surgery.

* While your mouth is numb, be careful not to bite the inside of your cheek or lip, or your tongue.

* Do not lie flat. This may prolong bleeding. Prop up your head with pillows.

* Try using an ice pack on the outside of your cheek for the first 24 hours. You can use moist heat-such as a washcloth soaked in warm water and wrung out-for the following 2 or 3 days.

* Relax after surgery. Physical activity may increase bleeding.

* Eat soft foods, such as gelatin, pudding, or a thin soup. Gradually add solid foods to your diet as healing progresses.

* Do not use a straw for the first few days. Sucking on a straw can loosen the blood clot and delay healing.

* After the first day, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water several times a day to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

* Do not smoke for at least 24 hours after your surgery. The sucking motion can loosen the clot and delay healing. In addition, smoking decreases the blood supply and can bring germs and contaminants to the surgery area.

* Avoid rubbing the area with your tongue or touching it with your fingers.

* Continue to brush your teeth and tongue carefully.

Your dentist will remove the stitches after a few days, if needed.
Reply:I would have someone call the dentist for you. Don't brush your teeth. You will have to rinse with warm salty water after the first 24 hours. It takes anywhere from 5 - 10 days to completely heal. Make sure you are applying cold compresses on the jaws/cheeks for at least 15 minutes at a time throughout the day for swelling.
Reply:Hi-

Usually the stitches you have are dissolveable and so sometimes they start to fall out or dissolve pretty quickly this is normal. Keep in mind you might not see any swelling from that impacted tooth right away, sometimes it can take up to 3 days. If you are in any discomfort, you should stay home from school but as long as you have a light diet (shakes, no straws. scrambled eggs, yogart) and minimize your activities you should be fine to go back to school. You are going to be a little sore opening your mouth, you will ooze or bleed for a day after your surgery. Brush the teeth you can, and yes Listerine is fine. You might notice a foul taste in your mouth, that is food particles stuck in the sockets, where the teeth were removed. When you go back in a week for your check up they will wash out those sockets for you and the bad taste will go away. Recovery should be a week to two weeks depending on how impacted the teeth were. Also be sure not to use a straw when drinking, this will cause those sockets to ooze.
Reply:Please call your Dentist. I've read some great Answers here. In addition can give advice, I had all 4 pulled at one time.

I am positive the best thing is to contact the Dentist/Assistant who has seen your mouth inside and out. This is part of the process for going to the Office in the first place.

You could end up worse off with an infection and worse.

I need to teeth pulled :(?

ive never had a tooth pulled and the ortho says if i dont get these 4 out they will ahev to pull them in a month because otherwise my braces wont straighten my teeth! does it hurt? they arent wiggly at all. :(

I need to teeth pulled :(?
DONT LISTEN to the others, it doesn't really hurt. It is uncomfortable, and there is a lot of pressure, but the anesthetixc really does the trick. For four teeth, it should only take about twenty minutes and then they will be out and you qwont have to worry about it. Just be sure to take really good care of your mouth after the procedure ans you will be fine...
Reply:Yeah, it hurts. And it's gross because you can hear the teeth cracking and feel pressure when they pull them out.

Sorry.

Yes it does hurt! You will receive 4 injections for each tooth that needs to be pulled.
Reply:I had the exact same problem when I had braces about 20 years ago. I had to have 3 teeth pulled.

It's uncomfortable, but you won't be screaming in pain.
Reply:DR will put medicine in your mouth. YOU wont feel a thing.
Reply:yeah it'll work especially if you're blonde.
Reply:i had the same problem and only one my teeth fell out

they numb your mouth and them pull it out

it hurts and you cat eat for a while but it should be ok
Reply:Your mouth will be numb, but you will feel "pressure" and hear some cracking sounds. It will hurt some when the numbness wears off, but they can give you a prescription for pain pills.

It's VERY important to follow the instructions for AFTER the teeth are pulled, so you don't develop a "dry socket" which is VERY painful!
Reply:You'll be fine. I've had all wisdom pulled and it's not the funnest but not the worst at all. They'll numb you and pull the tooth out the socket. You'll feel absolutely no pain(unless your not numb enough) you'll just feel the pressure of the tooth being pulled out. Afterwords you'll have a bloody whole. You may feel some pain after the numbing has worn off. But nothing pain killers can't fix. They'll give you gauze to help stop the bleeding. They'll also tell you to not do any kind of sucking motion. Like smoking, sucking threw a straw, spitting, whistling etc.Cause you want a blood clot to form in the empty socket, which will act like a scab and then the gum will grow over it.

Well, Good luck.

Does having your teeth pulled out hurt ??

Does having your teeth pulled out hurt because tomorrow i need to have 1 adult tooth pulled out for braces .

THANKS .

Does having your teeth pulled out hurt ??
Well, it looks like everyone answering this question seems to think you are going to be in pain. I wonder how many of them are dentists?

Having done many dental extractions over a period of many years, I can tell you honestly that extractions do not have to be painfull at all.

The area of the extraction site will be anesthetized so that you literally don't feel anything other than numbness. And although there are about a thousand other things you would rather be doing than a dental extraction, it won't be as bad as your imagination is making it right now.

And good for you for getting braces - you'll love the results.

Best wishes.
Reply:So its really not that bad??I thought it was going to feel like SOOOOOOOO BAD!!!Tomorrow I have to get 2 teeth pulled out hopefully it wont hurt im SOO Scared!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Report It

Reply:Uhhhh, YES!!!! It's not much fun. Hate to break it to you. But the dentist should give you pain pills.
Reply:Yeah, it hurts. Try to be calm, and keep an open line of communication with your dentist. Tell him you are concerned about pain, and ask him if he can give you a good dose of anasthesia.
Reply:It is extremely painful if an anasthesia or pain pills were not given.

But I m sure your dentist will give you anasthesia and make sure you don't feel any pain before he starts his procedure.

I understand your anxiety, but if I were you, I would go with an open mind, and just take it as an experience, and also let the dentist know even if I have the lightest pain, before he starts his procedure.

Good luck !!

Reply:It's not that bad. I had 4 pulled at one time to get my braces. Good luck. 2D
Reply:NO, it doesn't hurt, they give you shots where your mouth is completely numb. You will just feel PRESSURE, but you will not feel any PAIN whatsoever.

Trust me, I am the BIGGEST dental chicken and I have done this, so you can to!!

Plus they give you pain meds for afterwards, I promise you will never be in pain.

Good luck.
Reply:No, I had to get 4 teeth pulled out before I got my braces and I freaked out for nothing. It's really not bad and they'll give you Novocaine so you don't feel a thing.

Having teeth pulled while your pregnant?

I know having good dental health while your pregnant is important. I am to the point that I know I need to have my teeth pulled and get dentures. However I am scared that having that much dental work will be harmful for the baby? But I am in pain most days and the condition of my teeth is making it hard for me to eat heathly foods.

Anyone have any ideas??

Having teeth pulled while your pregnant?
I am having 6 teeth pulled this week. I am 27 weeks pregnant. I had one pulled when I was 14 weeks. As long as you are being treated to prevent infection you should be fine. They shouldn't be pulled at the start or the very end of pregnancy.

I have 4 wisdom teeth and 2 molars going. I can't wait till the end either.
Reply:Most dental work is okay if you are in your 2nd trimester. Just make sure you check with you doctors. Good luck.
Reply:You have to get a paper from the dentist to take to your doctor to get an "OK" to have dental exams done. and You have to be in your 2nd Trimester.

And of course you need to have your teen done as you can get an infection and it can harm your baby.

My friend had this and she was hospitalized because of an infection in her mouth, its very dangerous, so its very good that you want to take action now.
Reply:talk to your dentist. some dentist will not touch you while pregnant.
Reply:I had to have a tooth pulled while I was pregnant. Basically, they try not to do it in the first trimester unless you have infections or something that would put your baby at risk. If you're otherwise healthy and in the second trimester then it's likely they would do some dental work. Having ALL of your teeth pulled sounds excessive- I'd talk to both your dentist and you OB- they'll direct you to a safe plan.
Reply:I have had teeth pulled while I was pregnant but not all of them. I would talk to your dentist and ob they are the only ones who know best.
Reply:My sister had all of her teeth pulled when she was 7 months pregnant and got dentures. It didn't harm my nephew in any way whatsoever. It will be okay. It will be better in the long run to have all your teeth pulled now so you can eat better for the baby. It will not harm him/her. Be brave!
Reply:i had 2 teeth pulled 2 different cleanings 3 different times where i went in and got fillings and had a partial made and everytime they used the numbing stuff its diff. than the stuff they use on non preg. peeps its not as strong but i believe since i did that all in a matter of the first 3 mths of my preg. and im still preg. at 39 weeks its safe
Reply:ask your doc if what he will do will be harmful for your baby or not
Reply:i would be scared of exesive dental work while pregnant... just because of the risk of infection...
Reply:Hi, I started losing teeth early in my second trimester and they could not find out why for a long time. The dentist sent me to a gum specialist who sent me back to the regular dentist. Many specialists later they decided all of my teeth had to go but said there was no hurry so I waited until after the baby was born. They said they could do it during the pregnancy if I insisted.

Check with your ob/gyn and the dentist to determine what is best for the baby.

Feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this and dentures.

Can bridges on either side of gapped front teeth pulled together by braces prevent the gap from returning?

If a person has only 4 top teeth in front (the two front teeth and the fangs) because the teeth adjacent to the two front teeth genetically never formed (x-rays show nothing there), and so these 4 teeth are spread appart and gapped, can they be fixed with bridges? They were "fixed" 10 yrs. ago with wide caps to fill the gaps, but that looks unnatural. The dentist thinks that the wide gap between the 2 front teeth is caused by the frenum and needs a frenectomy. Can't braces pull the fangs back where they belong and pull the 2 front teeth together? And if the missing tooth between the front one and the fang is added with a bridge (thus needing 2 bridges for 2 sides), wouldn't the bridges keep the gap between the 2 front teeth from reappearing even without an upper labial frenectomy?

Can bridges on either side of gapped front teeth pulled together by braces prevent the gap from returning?
For proper tissue contour and esthetics you would probably want to do the frenectomy, with possibly pre-prosthetic orthodontics.

Dentists do not ordinarily replace fangs, but you can pick up some plastic ones at the Dollar Store.
Reply:You might consider implants in place of the 2 lateral incisors that are missing after the ortho has created the spaces again. This would prevent you from having to crown the 4 virgin teeth that would act as your abutment or anchor teeth for bridges. Check with an oral surgeon to see if you'd have enough bone for implants.

The diastima or gap usually will reocurr if the tissue is too thick between the central incisors. You need the surgery to reduce the tissue.
Reply:Braces can pull apart %26amp; push together.

I had braces for 2 and a half years. And you have to continue wearing your retainer for years to keep them straight.

[I've got the clear retainer, so it's all good]

Getting Teeth Pulled TODAY!?

Today Im getting 2 of the 4 teeth pulled for braces. Im really nervous. Someone help me. Please email me too =)

1) How long will the process take (they are not wisdom teeth or molars)?

2) How long will it take to heal?

3) What should I eat afterwards?

4) How long do I have to wait before I can eat?

5) How bad will it hurt on a scale of 1-10, 1 being nothing and 10 being horrible.

Getting Teeth Pulled TODAY!?
1 1/2 hour 2 a few days 3. nothing for a few hours, then clear liq, then advance as you feel able to 5.. 2 or 3 if you do well 6 if problems, controlled by meds i hope
Reply:Perhaps if you ask your dental surgeon, he/she will be able to give you the answers to all of your questions. Just like other surgeries.....many people take things (pain, healing, etc.) different. I'm sure you'll be fine though. I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and the process was not bad at all.....very little pain (after the surgery), and my mouth healed up fairly quickly (a few days).
Reply:It will be quick. They numb the area really good and pull them out. It is alot of pressure but you shouldn't feel it and if you do tell them they will numb it some more. It will take a few days to heal and you will want to eat soft foods because your mouth will be sore and bleeding for the next few hours. On a pain scale I would say in my experiences it would be a 2 or 3. It was more uncomfortable than painful.
Reply:1.) Shouldn't take more than 20 minutes to pull the teeth. Probably 15 minutes to get you good and numb, though.

2.) Healing takes a couple of weeks. Be careful not to drink through a straw and do what they tell you to do so that you don't develop a painful condition known as "dry socket".

3.) Eat soft foods and soups afterwards. Jello, Ice Cream, Yogurt, Cottage Cheese are all good to have on hand. I like Bean %26amp; Bacon soup after dental work. It is very comforting.

4.) You probably won't want to eat right away, but within a few hours you'll be able to.

5.) It really shouldn't hurt at all. You may feel some discomfort %26amp; pressure when they pull the tooth, but not pain. Your mouth will be a little sore for a couple of days, but nothing a little Tylenol won't cure.

Good luck with your appointment. Don't be afraid - You'll make it worse on yourself if you don't relax and trust the dentist.
Reply:On your scale try 3,It's a bigger pain in the butt until the Novocaine wears off. You'll get a itch you can't scratch. I've had teeth pulled that I didn't feel anything just a little pressure. Don't worry it's a piece of cake and ask your dentist about healing and eating he knows best
Reply:depends on where the teeth are; 1. will it hurt, on your scale maybe a 3 if the dentist knows what he is doing. 2. it will heal in a few days and you will not be in pain after first few hours, 3. you can eat anything you want after a few hours, 4. it should take about an hour( for whole appointment), after he gives you shots and starts process. don't worry be happy , in time you will have perfect teeth, just relax!!!!
Reply:I don't know any of the answers to your question but GOOD LUCK HUN.
Reply:THE DENTIST WILL TELL YOU.

Mostly im thinking I wont wake up and then im scared of how im going to feel when I do wake up and the pain! Im just a complete mess! Even now my heart is pounding! I guess I just need assurace that everything will be ok and it wont be so bad. I have to go back to work in 3 days after surgery so im hopeing it will be ok.

Any and all comments would be great! Thank you

Having teeth pulled and freaking out about IV Sedation please help!?
Hey there! I also have panic attacks, and went through the same thing you are describing when I had four wisdom teeth out a few years ago. I wouldn't take a nerve pill before the surgery without talking to your doctor first, in case it would have a reaction with the medicines they are going to give you. When I had my surgery, it was my first time ever being put to sleep, and I was terrified. The doctors first gave me something in the IV to calm my nerves, though...I think it was Valium. They reassured me that I wouldn't feel a thing, and the last thing I remember after they told me that they were giving me something to calm me down was thinking, "Wow, this stuff works fast. I feel great." The next thing was waking up, drugged and happy. I was in no pain, and when the anaesthesia was wearing off, I felt so silly, like everything was there solely for my amusement. I was actually so shocked that I made it through the surgery...you see, I was certain that I wouldn't wake up. But I did, and you will too. If you decide that you need to take a nerve pill or something, though, do it a few hours before you go in to your surgery. And above all else, and I know this will sound crazy, enjoy it! You get to eat popsicles and ice cream, lay around, take pills that will make you feel funny, and have attention lavished on you by anybody who is around you. And don't stress too much...I felt so silly afterward for making it into such a big deal. Good luck!
Reply:at least you have the option of being asleep!!! don't worry though you'll wake up and your mouth will probably be numb so you won't feel anything right off. durring that time get the scrpt filled and follow directions. everything will be fine.
Reply:It's normal to be nervous. You will be asleep so fast, you won't remember a thing. When I had my wisdom teeth out, the gave me the stuff to knock m out, she said she'd be right back and then they were waking me up. when my husband had his done, I was in there. they gave him the sedative and I left right after and he didn't remember me leaving!

As for when you wake up, you won't be in pain, not right away at least. You will be groggy and out of it (why you need a driver with you). You'll probably just go home and go to sleep. Just be sure to take the pain meds and antibiotics on time. It will help keep the pain minimal, if you feel anything at all. After 3 days, you should be back to normal (although you'll still need to eat soft foods and liquids).

Good luck!
Reply:Wow I just have novicane and it made me not have feeling in my mouth. Dont worry though my friend had that. It is super routine they probably do it all the time and are experts.
Reply:don't worry the pill you take ahead of time will relax you, also most places will start you on laughing gas before the iv that will also relax you . once the medicine starts going through the iv you will be asleep in less than 5 minutes. keep your chin up. ha ha ha
Reply:Before you have your sedation you will probably be taking some pain medication so that when you wake up you won't be experiencing pain. Someone will be with you to take you home and look after you. You will be in well trained, qualified hands with a practitioner that has done this before so try not to worry! I had 5 teeth out the day after my honeymoon and went home and felt so good I ate some dinner. I didn't have swelling or bruising and as a hygienist I like to tell people (including my patients) that story since all you ever hear are the horror stories.

Do your best and try to relax and don't be afraid to tell the staff how you feel. If you need to listen to your IPOD or take deep breaths don't be shy about it. Follow the post operative instructions that they give you -- have them write them down if they don't give you a pamphlet or handout and you should be fine!!!

Reply:hello j3, you will be okay, iv solution sedative puts you in a twilight, but you won't recall anything. nor would you really want to be awake for this procedure. so don't fear being put to sleep. i advise that you do not take a lorazepam before you go, as it will only add to the sedation. i have panic attacks as you do, so i understand. you won't wake up in this massive pain, you will still have Novocaine to numb the areas. try not to be scared, this is a routine procedure. you may have some sore jaws, but you should be able to go back to work in 3 days. my daughter had all 4 pulled at once and she went out that night with her friends! try not to let anticipatory anxiety get to you! again, you will be fine! i hope this helped! :)
Reply:Always get your wisdom teeth removed by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. IV sedation and LA work well together, but to find out the benefits of this treatment with wisdom tooth surgery go to http://www.oceansurgical.com.au/

Can getting your wisdom teeth pulled mess up your teeth?

Okay, so I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow morning and I'm very nervous...not so much about the pain though, I'm nervous that it may mess up my teeth. I went through the whole braces thing, that cost bunches and I don't want my teeth to get messed up in any way. So, if I have this done will it mess up my teeth? Thanks for the help! XD

Can getting your wisdom teeth pulled mess up your teeth?
I think getting your wisdom teeth pulled is a good idea. I also had braces before I had my wisdom teeth pulled. My teeth look fine and even seem a little bit straighter. If you don't have your wisdom teeth pulled, they could come in wrong and crowd your other teeth, and in turn make your teeth crooked again!

It's gonna be uncomfortable but if you follow the doctor's recovery instruction, you shouldn't have any problems...and no matter what...DON'T DRINK OUT OF A STRAW!!!

Good luck!!
Reply:I'd say it's more likely they'll mess up your other teeth if you DON'T have them pulled.
Reply:yes it can...i had my wisdom teeth pulled on one side of my mouth when i really didn't need to and my teeth shifted and now i have gaps in my teeth on that side of my mouth...i used to have a perfect smile...grrrrrrr

cancel your appointment and don't get them pulled unless it's a matter of life and death
Reply:Well most of my friends who go braces had to get teeth pulled in order to straighten them out since these troublesome teeth were part of the problem, so I would say that pulling your wisdom teeth now will save you headache later.
Reply:You get wisdom teeth pulled so your teeth don't get messed up. As your wisdom teeth grow in they could push your other teeth together and on top of each other if there is not enough room in your mouth for them.
Reply:Hahaha...I thought I was alone with this thought of have my wisdom teeth pulled would messed up my teeth...well it is not at all!!!

I wore brace for 4 years and a month...and current wear retainer (at night)...last year (I think...) I have my wisdom pulled out...and it didn't messed up since ever cuz it still look the same and it is in the same position before you have ur wisdom pulled out...

Plus, people cannot see your wisdom bein' pulled out that far inside your teeth...so you have nothin' to worry about!

Good luck! :)

Peace
Reply:no is not gonna mess up your teeth but if you leave them they will mess up.
Reply:If you have this question, I would ask your dentist. I've never heard of this happening and it definitely didn't happen to me. If you don't have them pulled and they break through into your gums they will rearrange your teeth and you probably will get your teeth messed up a little. Im sure it will be fine but ask your dentist/doctor before the procedure.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled about 10 months ago. In the spaces where the teeth used to be...food got stuck in there all the time and if I left it there for more than 30 minutes, my jaw would swell so I had to be careful about that for the first month, and I had to clean it with a toothpick and hydrogen peroxide. My teeth stayed pretty much the same though, no bad effects - and the operation was ok. It didn't mess up my teeth though - no worries!
Reply:Your teeth could shift if you do get them pulled because the wisdom tooth may be holding them together structurally. If that were to happen, it would most likely not be a major change.

If you don't get your wisdom teeth pulled, you run the risk of actually breaking the rest of your teeth. The reason they pull your wisdom teeth is because there isn't enough room in your mouth to fit all of your teeth, and by keeping the extra teeth in you create a crowding problem. Teeth break and shift to accommodate for the extra wisdom teeth, therefore giving you the worst set of teeth ever.
Reply:no way
Reply:oh my def not. you are suppose to have them pulled so they won't mess up your dental work. both of my kids have had braces alone with my husband and i and we all had to have our wisdom teeth pulled and we all have perfect white teeth. good luck and you have nothing to worry about.

Getting teeth pulled HELP please!!?

Okay, here it goes. So i have to get about five teeth pulled, four on top and one on bottom, they are all baby teeth that have no permanents under them, i am scared out of my mind! Does it hurt, is it scary, do you think the dentist would let me listen to my iPod so i don't hear the noise?

BTW, I am the kinda person who worries a lot!

Getting teeth pulled HELP please!!?
I had multiple baby teeth pulled out. the doctor puts enough novacaine in you that you don't feel a thing. sometimes you do hear the tooth getting pulled out but never feel a thing. i listened to my ipod when i got my teeth pulled so i don't see a problem with you using yours but i guess it depends on the dentist. even after the novacaine wears off you don't feel any pain or anything!!
Reply:The most painful part of it will be the novicaine needle, it's just a poke in your mouth for about 5-6 seconds, not too bad, no worse than a cat scratch, then once you're numb as your teeth are being pulled, you'll feel pressure, but no pain or very minimal pain. Then later, after the novicaine wears off, you'll feel a dull, droning pain in your mouth, but it's not too bad.

I had four permanent (adult) teeth pulled at once last year, wasn't all that bad.
Reply:I have had 3 teeth pulled. they numb you up and you cant feel anything, i listened to my ipod so i wouldnt hear it and it was alot easier hope this helps

AAArrgh! Getting canine teeth pulled out?

Well, my canines sit high above my other teeth, and I've been on the NHS waiting list for orthadontal care. Anyway, my dentist said that it's been left quite late and removing lower teeth to make room for canines is a bad idea. He said that I'd have to wear braces for well over two years and use a head brace at night times.

Basically, he's implying that I have to have my canine teeth pulled, though I'm yet to see an ortho for a second opinion. Will my mouth look totally ridiculous if this happens? I've never heard of anyone having them extracted- only the teeth below them.

AAArrgh! Getting canine teeth pulled out?
definatly get a sencond opinion - iv'e worked in ortho for 3 years and have NEVER seen any patient required to have canine's extracted...........upper and lower pre molars and molars yes but not canines.............

Wisdom teeth pulled????????????

Mine arent fully grown in yet...I went to my dentist today and she said I have to get my topleft and bottom right wisom teeth pulled(there growing in wrong) She made an appointment for 5/8 to have them pulled....I forgot my prom is on the 18th.....Should I change the appointment to an earlier date or later? I dont know what to do......

Wisdom teeth pulled????????????
9 chances out of 10, you will be just fine for the prom. But - if it is absolutely essential that you are 100% tip-top for the prom, change your appointment. If everything goes well in healing, it takes about 3 weeks or so before you feel completely normal again. You could still be a little sore 10 days later, even with normal healing.
Reply:You should be fine. If you are really worried about it you could call your doctor and ask her. But ten days should be enough time for the swelling and pain to subside.
Reply:You Should Be Fine By Your Prom Time. I Do Think It Does Take About Six Months To A Year For The Complete Healing Process.
Reply:I would choose earlier because it's less to worry about but it can also be painful once the surgery is done and wow your prom is on my birthday.
Reply:You shouldbe fine after 10 days. it usually takes less than week for the ffects of getting yourteeth pulled to go away. i had one of my wisdom teeth removed on a good friday, and I ate easter dinner on Sunday with no ill effects( except of course from too much pie!)
Reply:that hurts like crazy sorry
Reply:you should change the earlier date

Wisdom teeth pulled...?

About 3 days ago I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled. My normal dentist pulled them.. so they were not difficult. I have been reading a lot of other posts and it seems that the others all talk about dissolvable stitches. I got the normal stiches that need to be taken out in 10 days. Why are my stitches different?

Also, I would like tips on cleaning holes with the stitches. I am having a very hard time. I was not given any special tools to aide me.

Wisdom teeth pulled...?
My dentist gave me an eyedropper and had me use it to wash the sockets out with scope. You want one where you can force the mouth wash out quickly. After you do this, then use regular water to flush them out again.
Reply:These concerns should really be talked over with your doctor at consult. I work for an oral surgeon so I will share with you what I have learned.

Dry socket is a clotting issue. You are correct in stating that. For the most part patients do not develop this but some can. It is easily treated though with medicated packing. It is important to follow ALL of your post op instructions carefully. No straws, rinsing, brushing or forceful spitting on day one. Day 2, brushing is safely done but be careful and rinse with salt water morning, evening and after meals for a few days. Day 3 use the syringe to gently flush any debris that settles in the sockets.

Don't worry about waking up during the procedure. You will have an iv in place the entire time. If your surgeon sees too much activity coming from you he/she will give the proper dosage to help keep you sedated. The nice thing about iv sedation is the doctor can control how much to use during the procedure. When a patient uses an oral sedation the doctor is pretty much limited to how he/she can control the sedation.

There are signs that the doctor is trained to look for if more sedation is required. Usually arms start to lift or squirming in the chair. I have never seen a patient just pop up from the chair and say ouch. when they start making movement the surgeon will stop what he/she is doing and administer more iv sedation and it's night night time again until he/she is finished.

hoped this helped. and just so you know. removing wisdom teeth is a breeze. don't worry, be happy they'll be gone.
Reply:The dentist will usually decidewich type of stitches he would like to use sometimes he may think the dissolvable one would come out to soon .As far as cleansing you probably dont need anything special .Brush gently in the area until you can go back to normal use salt water rinsing mouthrinse and if you need to use a cotton swab or gauze to gently wipe away any food or anything that is sticking in that area but I think probably rinsing and brushing will do it .

3 teeth pulled??

I am having 3 teeth pulled, and though I've had extractions....never more than one tooth!! How long will I be in pain??

3 teeth pulled??
I really think it depends on the person. I had to have a tooth removed a couple yrs ago and didnt have any pain. But recently I needed 2 others removed and the pain was awful. The day they were removed was the worst, but the day after the procedure was good, i had some gum tenderness but not much pain. Good Luck!
Reply:Trust me my brother got 12 teeth pulled b.c hes getting braces so dont feel sorry my brother had a headache and pain for about 3 hours...

Wisdom teeth pulled a week from now, but what about a week later?

I'm 22 and I still have all 4 of my wisdom teeth. Boo! They are growing crooked and my mouth now is tight so I can't floss and they hurt, blah blah blah, etc...everything usually associated with wisdom teeth.

So naturally I am having them pulled. It will be on the 19th (next Wednesday). I am about to lose insurance and don't know when I will have dental again. So with that I only have this month to do it which happens to be my busiest month. But he only does it Wednesdays so the 19th was really the only option that fits in my schedule. BUT. On the 26th I am leaving for San Antonio. It is an 8 hour ride. And we are stopping in Mexico for a day afterwards. Who would stop in Mexico without sampling Mexican food? Ha. I'll be in this area for about a week.

I am really worried about the swelling and pain. It is a week after the surgery, will/could I be fine? Any advice? Or am I just S.O.L.?

Wisdom teeth pulled a week from now, but what about a week later?
I've never had wisdom teeth pulled, but have had a root canal. You should be fine. Just make sure you take the pain meds they give you!
Reply:Actually, the pain meds made me nothing but sick. I mean, I threw up 5 times in about an hour. And that was with food! It sucked. Report It

Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled on a thurday and was eating spicy foods that saturday.....evne though i wasnt supposed to haha. um when you are eating it though try to not put the pressure directly on the stitches....obviously.

just avoid the whole using a straw thing and be careful when drinking out of bottles the suction could cause dry socket....which sucks big time.

its not too bad. the worst thing for me was the puffyness
Reply:Only you know how you will feel two weeks down the road. Usually they tell you to use a wet teabag on the site...You do not want a dry socket...The clot has to form and infection could set in. I would be careful about eating so that things can heal....
Reply:A week after extraction of wisdom teeth, you should be feeling more comfortable, but Mexican food will probably be out of the question! The areas in the back of your mouth will still be healing. Spices and sharp foods getting caught behind the last teeth can cause the areas not to heal properly and you could develop a very painful problem called a "dry socket", meaning it stops healing. Be gentle to yourself and take it easy.

4 teeth pulled out for braces?

i just had 4 biscupids pulled out for braces...an hour ago

my lips are numb...how long will it lastt?

is it going to hurt like hell were they pulled my teeth out?

how long will it take for it to heal?

what can i eat or drink?

how long will the pain last?

they put these cotton like things in my mouth.. when should i take them out?

4 teeth pulled out for braces?
I went thru the same thing as you I had my four teeth pulled before getting my braces after they take them out they usually give you vicodines or other pain killers and yes you will be in pain when the medicine wears off you should sterilize your mouth every now and then especially after you try to eat when you chew try to avoid using the beack of your mouth where they were pulled so it avoids infection watch what you eat also by the 2nd or 3rd day, you should be able to sample soft food, and little by little, you can start mushing regular foods around with your front teeth.pudding, ice cream, jello, mashed potatoes, etc. Don't forget to DRINK plenty, and you can get lots of your nutrition that way: juice (V8 Splash is delicious and gives you a serving of fruits n veggies), nutritional drinks (I LOVE chocolate Boost), milk, etc. I was able to eat mac n cheese and soft pastas (spaghettios). Some folks like to eat yogurt. I also had tomato soup (warm, not hot!) and dipped bread in it, which made it nice and easy to eat.

You'll be eating "regular" foods before you know it :-) Just be careful for the first several days, cause any food that gets stuck up in those holes can cause infection. I know because I HAVE an infection!! Rinse very gently with warm salt water after everything you eat. Good luck!!
Reply:idk but eat soup. actually, i like to eat mac and cheese when i cant chew. you dont have to chew it, and im not much of a soup person
Reply:The numbness will probably be gone by the time you wake up tomorrow...and the soreness usually takes just 2-3 days before you will be comfortable eating your usual foods. Since your mouth is the quickest healing place on your body, you will notice the extraction sites beginning to heal within the next couple of days and completly healed within a 7-9 days. The cotton in your mouth is just to put pressure on the sites to help stop the bleeding....you can usually remove these within an hour.

P.S. I have been an orthodontic assistant for the past 14 years......Don't worry about the spaces where the bicuspids were taken out.....once your teeth are in good alignment, your orthodontist will begin bringing the spaces together and will leave no space when you are finished. This is a very common treatment plan. Hope this helps!!
Reply:The doctor should have told you these things....or you mom.

You will probably start to be able to feel things in the next hour or two.

It may hurt a bit but Tylenol should be able to make things feel better.

Initially just a few days, however your gum has to grow back and fill in the missing space. It is probably slightly different for everyone but when I had mine done (had the same thing done) I could still feel dips in the gum for about 3 or 4 months.

You should not eat anything hard (potato chips, popcorn, carrots, etc.) for at least 3 days.

Probably about a week. Mouths tend to heal quickly.

I would take them out if you eat tonight. They are used to prevent you from swallowing blood from the opening. They should have given you more. Re-bandage them after you eat. You can stop putting bandages on them when you stop bleeding. However I wouldn't sleep with them in since you could choke on them.

Good luck.
Reply:Did you ask your dentist these questions? Sometimes it is hard for someone to answer these questions without seeing your x-rays and without doing the procedure. Call the dentist and ask him these questions. If he/she doesn't take the time to address these questions, he/she is a disgrace to the profession. I treat all of my patients like they are the most important. It is a shame there are a few that don't care.
