I'm getting 8 teeth pulled?!?!?!?....I am going to an oral surgeon?

I'm 18 and Feb.1st I'm getting 8 teeth pulled. 4 baby teeth on the top that just REFUSE to fall out and then my 4 wisdom teeth. I'm not to concerned for my 4 baby teeth other than the fact that i will have old person gums for a while. But I'm not exactly calm for my wisdom teeth. None of my wisdom teeth have erupted, but there are no roots attached to them. When my dad made the appointment he said that i would be heavily sedated? with an IV? Firstly, I'm terrified of needles...like panic attack status. What exactly is the process that I will go through? Will I be conscious of what they are doing? Do I get nitrous before the IV?

Then I also have a dance competition on the 8th and 9th. Will i be generally healed to dance without major problems? I've heard of dry sockets. I'm not exactly sure what they are, but i've heard they are TERRIBLY painful.

What can i do to make sure that i have a very speedy recovery and prevent the possibility of dry sockets?

I desperately need reassurance

wait you are 18 and still have baby teeth i am 12 and lost all of my baby teeth.
Reply:just breath. they will put you to sleep in a matter of seconds. he will tell you how to prevent dry sockets...i went through wisdom teeth and it was not that bad at all....HANG IN THERE
Reply:Best thing to do is let time heal yourself. You will probably be drugged so you won't feel a thing...will maybe the after effects. And you will also get swollen cheeks.
Reply:I am also TERRIFIED of needles and I got mine tooken out.

When you get there they put the gas mask on you so you get kind of drowsyish.

Soooo that way when they put the IV in you you don't even know it is happening.

%26amp;%26amp;Literally 10 SECONDS after the IV is in you YOU ARE DEAD ASLEEP.

You will not wake up for about 2 - 4 hours.

It knocks you out completely.

Soooooo you won't feel a single thing.

When you go home you will probably will sleep for 2 days straight (that's what I did)

%26amp;%26amp;When you stand up for a while you might get light headed because of the lose of blood.

But it doesn't hurt too much as long as you take the medicine for like a week or 2.

Sorry so long but I hope that helped!!!

Reply:I too had my wisdom teeth pulled when i was 18. I was awake though and it didn't take too long. I DO hear that they can knock you out and you won't be aware of anything. The best thing to do would be to call your dentist and tell him/her your concerns! As far as dry sockets go, you just have to be careful the first few days. Don't rinse.. don't suck things (like straws, etc) don't tounge the holes (I had a hard time with that one!) I've had a lot of teeth pulled and never had a dry socket, though my sister got one and it hurt a lot. As long as everything goes smoothly, you should be healed up enough to dance the next week. Good luck and hang in there!
Reply:I had mine done about 2 months ago. The needle they used on me was so tiny I didn't feel it. I am used to taking twice the amount of Advil and stuff. I told the dentist that I have a high tolerance to drugs. He first gave me something to relax me then he used the stuff to knock me out. He wound up giving me 2 doses of that. I went out and woke up with out my wisdom teeth. They gave me pain medication for a week and a half. Before I went in I was a nervous wreck I couldn't sit still in the waiting room and was freaking out. Afterword I found out I was worried for nothing. Oh and by the way I am 29.
Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth pulled a few months ago.....and really its not that bad. Some people react to it differently. The worse thing is getting sick to your stomache and thats only because of the medicine. Dont worry surgeons know what they are doing. Also, I got 6 baby teeth pulled when I was 8 and i didnt even notice they had started.

It depends on what doctor you have some dont like you playing in physical sports (or dance) for 2 weeks but some let you - its really how you react to the medicine and surgery.

Good Luck!
Reply:You will be fine they will put you out to do the work and before the IV they will put numbing medicine so it won't hurt. I just had this done and I got the dry socket thing and it was incredibly painful so FOLLOW the dentist directions to a "T" It was my fault cuz I didn't do what i was supposed to. Otherwise you'll be fine and I am the biggest baby when it comes to the dentist and I honestly would not steer you wrong! Just be as calm as you can, I found it helps if you don't look when they poke you with the needle and you'll take a nice nap and wake up and it all will be done! But do exactly what they tell you to do after wards!! If any of it hurts like a toothache with in the next 2 days after your ordeal CALL you dentist and he will fix you right up! Don't be stubborn like me I went through hell for 2 weeks with dry socket because I hate the dentist and didn't want to go back when I finally did I was FINE. So i suffered for nothing but being a baby! Good Luck you'll do just fine! (as far as the dancing goes ask him it may be a little too soon)
Reply:You will be asleep before you can count from 10 to 7....and without needles. At least that is my experience. You will be quite groggy when you wake up and probably have a mouth full of gauze. Your deciduous teeth were not pushed out by the permanent teeth so are they actually there or will you have something in place? You'll be fine. Don't get worked up before. I think you will be will fine for the competition. As for "dry socket", that is a risk with the procedure, just as there are risks with any procedures. They happen but if your dentist/surgeon is good, (and you follow proper post-op hygiene), you should be good to dance the night away.

Relax. Just a little bit of "wisdom" for ya. :)
Reply:your surgeon will give you reassurance, education, and advice. discuss the need to reschedule the surgery.
Reply:Use lots of ice, and ibuprofen. I'm not sure what they are using on you, but if you are heavily sedated you probably won't remember the procedure. Also call your oral surgeon and see if there is anything oral you can take like 30 min before the procedure for your anxiety. Maybe something like valium or xanax..
Reply:Big hugs to you xoxox

I can help you with the sedation as i had 4 teeth taken out under sedation - sediation is AMAZING !! i cant remember it at all,i felt tottaly relaxed,i had the sedation thru an iv and because im afraid of needles they gave me the anesthtic once i was really relaxed with the sedation so i didnt feel the anesthtic going in,the process i went through was this:

i was brought you a room and have the iv put in,30 mins before that i was given a tablet sedative so i was relaxed, then i was called to go through for the surgery i sat down they gave me the sedation thru the iv ( i didnt feel annything) then when i was relaxed they did the anesthtic and i was smiling all the way through x

I cant help with dry sockets cos i never had one x

All the best

message me if you want more info

Big hugs
