Getting wisdom teeth pulled out?

I'm usually very hard to frighten about anything, but half a year ago I had a crying spell over knowing that my wisdom teeth will be pulled out. Now it's scheduled for tomorrow and I'm not sure how to feel. I'm still very nervous though.

If anyone has had their wisdom teeth pulled out, can you tell me how it went? Was it painless? How much pain was there afterwards and for how long? I've heard the actual surgery is usually under 30 minutes. Also, this will be my first time under anesthesia.

Getting wisdom teeth pulled out?
It's different for everyone, but I had mine out with minimal pain the same day. Only had to take 4 painpills out of an entire bottles worth. Stuck with mushy food for about a week, simply because I was afraid of getting anything stuck where my wisdom teeth were pulled out. Stock up on some yummy pudding and ice cream, ramen noodles, soup, mashed potatos etc. And don't use straws!

Other than that I am sure you will be fine and just take the pain pills if not!

And oh yeah, surgery is really fast. I was in and out in an hour and the anesthesia just sort of makes you relaxed and then poof you fall asleep without knowing!
Reply:I just had my wisdom teeth pulled about a month ago. Now my teeth were very bad. The dental Hygienists would huddle around my x-rays at the my dentists office because they had never seen anything like it before. My surgery took an hour just to remove my lower wisdom. Don't worry about the initial pain. The doctor put me under anesthesia. I fell asleep, when I woke up it was over. Now, what hurt was the oxygen tube they shoved down my nose to keep me breathing. Expect blood. The doctor should give you gauze to take home with you so that you can bite down and stop the bleeding. Bleeding should stop after a few hours. Most of the pain came from biting down on these fat pieces of gauze, they made my mouth sore. Your doctor will prescribe pain killers, like Vikaden. And he should prescribe anti-bio-tics to prevent infections. Good Luck
Reply:I have to have all 4 of mine removed in a few weeks. I'll tell you t his now, after having so many teeth removed at the dentist as a kid..... 3 years ago when the new dentist told me the wisdom teeth needed to come out, I quit going to the dentist. But now, I know better. I've had pains from the teeth from time to time and such, it's so annoying.

Now, I'm not looking forward to having oral surgery done, but the teeth have got to go, and I'm no longer so freaked out over having them removed since I talked to the oral surgeon and he explained what he was going to do. And he'll just be sedating me with an IV, no anesthesia or anything like that.

As for the no straws thing, it's a good idea to not be SUCKING, since too much sucking can dislodge the blood clot in the hole where the tooth was, thus resulting in dry socket, which are extremely painful from what I've heard.
Reply:When I was in my early twenties I had both my wisdom teeth taken out at the bottom of my mouth. I was terrified to be honest!! But I was sedated and frankly I went straight to sleep and had to be woken up. They give another sedative to knock you out until way after the operation is over with. They also numb your gums before extracting so pain is not felt at all during the procedure or indeed for a while afterwards. You will be given painkillers and antibiotics too for maybe a week afterwards. Basically, don't worry - mine was a very comfortable and positive experience and my gums had to be cut to remove the teeth because they were severely tilting onto my other teeth.

Please don't worry. You will need someone to take you home afterwards though and probably will just sleep for a while afterwards too.

But, on the other hand, if you need your wisdom teeth extraction is a simple manner of just local numbing and extraction, then that hurts a lot less and heals a lot quicker. Also straight growing wisdom teeth are apparently quite easy to remove if needed to be (that's what my dentist said last time I saw him - need the tops one done soon!!).

I wish you a speedy recovery and all the best xxx
Reply:i have and most people need them pulled out at some time...i had no problems...
Reply:i just got my two bottom wisdom teeth pulled out 2 days ago. Since mine werent even grown out yet they had to cut into my gums and pull it out....i dunno wether ur wisdom teeth are grown out yet or if they are still buried in the gums but when they did the surgery it did not hurt at all because they numbed you up real well. To me the painful stuff was juss getting the shots to numb the gums. All that u will feel is pressure and manipulation. If ur wisdom teeth are already grown out the process is much easier and less painful. But either way u will be fine because u will be numb. when the numbing wears off it might be a bit sore and u wont be able to eat many tough foods. For me im not in too much pain, it actually doesnt hurt as much as i thought it would be!! Most of the pain will wear off in a couple days. AND when i had it done it only took abt 15 mins on each tooth. But time varies due to how ur teeth are positioned and how skilled the doc is.
