okay so here's the thing.
i went to my dentist to get my teeth pulled, and he said he wouldn't pull them because they were close to my sinuses. so he referred me to an oral surgeon. the teeth are biscuspids btw. the word oral surgeon just creeps me out.. it sounds so serious. :|
my question is;
how will the oral surgeon pull them out?
I have to get teeth pulled? HELP!?
Maybe this means they want to put you to sleep to do this. Where the doctor would just numb you up. If its close to your sinuses possibly more nerves in that area, and they would need a specialists. Don't be scared about oral surgeon. I would feel better having someone higher up do it, than just a dentist. Plus if they do put you to sleep, that would be better than being awake while they do it. Ask lots of questions in your consultation %26amp; good luck!
Reply:They use pilers and yank em out afterward they drill out with electric drill the parts that are stuck and staple in new teeth.
Reply:Oral surgeons are very experienced and your general dentist did a wonderful thing by referring you to one. Yes, I know it sounds serious because of the word surgeon, but they have specialized schooling and years of experience. You have six sinus cavities that can really cause problems if teeth are extracted improperly. The oral surgeon will pull them out the same way the general dentist would, but may put you to sleep or offer some type of sedation (you will have to have someone drive you and stay with you to drive you home). The sinus cavities and nerve endings of the teeth are very close together, so you really do want an oral surgeon to do the extraction. You or I can change our flat tire, but a mechanic will do it faster, better and we will know it's been done correctly. Hope the analogy helps. I have been to several oral surgeons, and they're very caring, experienced doctors who do a great job. Your bicuspids are directly below two huge sinus cavities, so by all means, take the referral and go to the O.S. Plus most general dentists I've worked for really don't like pullling teeth.
Reply:IV sedation or local anesthesia. Probably some nitrous oxide too, AKA laughing gas. WORKS GREAT.
I have a serious dentist phobia and have had a couple of oral surgeries and extractions. MUCH more comfortable than going to the dentist. Basically your'e numb and/or sleeping and he uses specialized tools and a good bit of upper body strength to pull them. Once your'e numb it's a lot easier! Good luck!
Reply:If I were you. I'd go with general anethesia (knocked out, asleep).
Before my braces, I had to get my wisdoms pulled and they just did the shots in the mouth - That hurt so much I was crying - and then when they started to work, I wasn't completely numb so they had to poke me some more. Then I had to get all four of my biscuspids pulled because my mouth was too small - then I went with general - A lot less stress - I was out, they did their thing, I went home.
