How painful is it to have teeth pulled?

Yeah, umm ... NOW the Dr. decides he wants to pull a wisdom tooth and another to boot - I have NEVER had a tooth pulled. I know they will numb it up during - but what kind of pain am I looking at post-pulling? Do they give you meds to help your gimpy head out?

How painful is it to have teeth pulled?
If the dentist gives you enough Novocaine, you won't feel a thing. Just a little pressure. My dentist gives nitrous oxide as well, so you feel the shots of Novocaine, but you don't really care. Afterwards the pain isn't that bad. Ibuprofen works well, and you might want to use ice packs on your jaws, for the swelling. I wouldn't recommend sedation. Many people wake up feeling very nauseated.
Reply:I had 22 teeth pulled 3 weeks ago, in order to have dentures put in.

The dentist asuured me that my teeth were loose enough that novacaine would indeed dull the pain. That was bull$%%26amp;!!!!.

Tell your dentist to sedate you! Report It

Reply:It's the needle that stings for a few seconds but after that you won't feel a thing. It is all over before you know it. Having said that I'm scared shitless of going.
Reply:Yes, they will give you meds. While the tooth is being pulled is the worst part, after that it's just a bit sore. During the procedure, you might get a combo of nitrous and novacaine. It makes it tolerable.
Reply:Really painful if done under anaesthasia, when the effect withdraws.Try using Homoeo pills of Arnica Montana in 200 potency.
Reply:I would pay the cost for IV sedation. You will be given meds to take after.. Some people such as me didn't take them I had 3 pulled at one time with no problem
Reply:do IV sedation
Reply:Why worry about it go to an Oral Surgeon and get a general anesthetic, Which in laymens terms get knocked out. While you sleep pain meds are administered even a long acting type numbing agent is given so when you wake up you feel no discomfort, a Prescription can be provided you can get it filled and take it as needed to help with any discomfort you may have if any later. With a general though you will need a driver with you someone that can drive you home, also a iv sedation can be used too if you have no one to drive you home. You may drive your self a few minutes later after a recovery assistant dismisses you. You do get meds to help you manage discomfort. So don't worry dentistry is no longer Midevil.

Have you ever had your teeth pulled?

i am getting three teeth in a row(on the same day)pulled next week

so i can get my braces some time soon, what should i expect when i am having my teeth pulled and what will happen afterwards.

thanxs very much.

Have you ever had your teeth pulled?
Dont be worried, 5 year old children can go through it so im sure you can. it really depends which teeth are being pulled, if they are on the bottom and are molars particually at the back of your mouth the needle tends to hurt a little bit more. When they give you the needle it isnt that bad, just try not to think about it and concentrate on something else. Moving your toes and fingers helps because it takes your mind off it.

When your teeth are extracted the dentist will push down on the tooth, so you will just feel pressure. Then a slight crack and its over. trust me its nothing compared to when you are getting an infected tooth pulled because the infection doesnt allow the needle to work. So it could be alot worse.

Afterwards you will have to keep a roll in your mouth until the bleeding stops and then it will be numb for an hour or so depending on the type of needle you got. Try not bite your tongue, lip etc.

Good luck
Reply:Slight pain after the medication begins to wear off. Minor swelling. Take some ibuprofen or asprin.
Reply:Could be a bit tender for a couple of days. if you smoke try not too after extraction ,get a new tooth brush to clean with as you dont want any unnecessary germs in your mouth, dont drink hot beverages after or for a day or so and rinse your mouth out every 4 hours with very warm salty water
Reply:There will be soreness for a few days. You'll need to be careful what you eat. You're doctor/dentist will more than likely give you a small amt of pain medicine to ease the soreness.
Reply:You will feel some tugging and pulling but you should not feel any pain - if you do have your dentist give you more meds.

for the first few days your mouth will be sore so try to eat soft foods.

make sure you rinse your mouth often with salt water - helps with healing.

I had all my top teath pulled out at the same time due to a car wreck - the doctor gave me meds. for afterward but I didn't need them - heck I was eating chips within 2 days.
Reply:The doctor gave me enought novacaine to numb me, but the worst part was just hearing the tooth come out and feeling the strength he and his assistant had to use to pull the tooth. It was sore for a week or two but ibuprophen kept it in check.
Reply:little amount of pain has to b there but it's an okay process.think of how good u'd look after u have ur braces
Reply:I had all four of my wisdom teeth pulled before they even broke out of the gum. When I had mine pulled they gave me a local anesthetic in my arm where they were going to put the IV in. I hardly felt the prick because they had already put the mask around my mouth and nose that knocks me out. I've heard sometimes they have you count backwards from one hundred but they didn't do that for me. I did it in my head anyway just to see how long it took me to fall asleep. I think I got down to 95. Next thing I know the nurse is helping me put my shirt on. I was very drowsy for the rest of the day and someone had to help me change the gauze. I didn't have any pain till later. I had to go back in because they had put medicinal gauze in to fill in the holes where the teeth were and they had to pull those out and then they gave me this thing to keep the holes clean so they healed properly. The worse thing about the whole ordeal was not the pain but the bad taste from the medicine. It was a yellow grainy sort of stuff. It took days to get it all cleaned out and I wasn't allowed to use things like straws for a whole month.
Reply:Do NOT take aspirin! In fact, if your doctor has not already told you this, you should not take aspirin for one week before or after a tooth extraction. Aspirin thins the blood and you'll bleed more.

No, the shots don't hurt at all. The dentist/orthodontist will numb the area inside your mouth before you get the shot. You'll barely even feel it. You might have some pain and bleeding immediately after the extraction. It should only last a few hours and you'll have a wad of gauze in your mouth to soak up the blood. The swelling lasts about a week.

Your doctor will give you specific instructions on what to do and when to do it before you leave the office. (rinsing with salt water, soft foods only, etc.) You should receive pain medication. Take it! If you wait until it starts hurting, it's too late. I made that mistake (trying to be tough).

You probably won't feel like doing much for the rest of the day and possibly the day after. By the third day or so, you'll start feeling better other than that woozy feeling from the drugs. It's not that bad.
Reply:If you are just going to a regular dentist, not an oral surgeon, they will use a topical anesthetic cream/paste/gel type of substance put on the gum with a cotton swab before giving you the novacaine shot. This will numb the area so you hardly feel the shot. For three teeth, you will likely have multiple shots, so the topical anesthetic really helps alot! Also, close your eyes! If you don't see the needle, you probably won't even feel it. All the answers I have read here are pretty much true, and even though it will seem scary at the time, it will be over soon. Afterwards, one of the most important things you can do is not suck anything, like a straw, because suction could dislodge the blood clot that will form in the gum. If that happens, (a condition known as "dry socket") you will know because it will have started feeling better for a few days, and then feel much, much worse. Keeping your tongue out of the hole helps too. It takes a couple of months for the gum to completely close where the tooth used to be. Good luck!
Reply:I have had three in a row pulled ALWAYS ask for pain meds, it is better to have them and not use them then to not have them and need them. Do NOT smoke, drink from a straw or drink hot liquids for the first 24 hours. if you do you could develope a dry socket. A dry socket is when the blood clot that forms in the opening where the tooth was comes out. It is very painful, I REPEAT VERY PAINFUL. Other wise get pain meds, do not smoke, and it will be ok.
Reply:it really depends on the dentist. with some you could feel some ache and with others u cant feel a thing. but in the end regardless if u felt the pain or not, your dentist will have to give u some kind of medication to calm any further pain. dont drink or eat anything hot or warm, eat and drink cool stuff for a while

Hope this helped, God bless u and goodluck
Reply:i had 6 teeth pulled on the same day. they numbed the gum with some gel stuff then they gave me some needles. i dont kno how many, i think one for each tooth. i didnt feel most of them, the ones i did feel were like a tiny prick. then they waited till my gums were numb and pulled the teeth. i didnt feel it, only a little bit of pulling and pushing. afterwards it was a bit sore but not tooo bad , just like when u normally loose a tooth but deeper holes. they bleed a fair bit and i would wake up for about a week and there would be blood on my pillow, but they didnt really hurt too much after the first couple of days. they stung a bit when i ate some foods and really hot stuff (hot as in degrees not hot as in hot food like chilli lol)

I had two top back teeth pulled, now i feel bone & slivers where the teeth were pulled.is this normal?

i have been back to the dentist and he pinched off a sharp edge and said the hole where the two teeth were pulled may take several months to heal. this has never happened before.the feeling of the bone is driving my tounge crazy. any suggestions?...

I had two top back teeth pulled, now i feel bone %26amp; slivers where the teeth were pulled.is this normal?
It will take some time for the bone to fill in the area, I understand what you mean - I felt the same way. Also, the "slivers" are not uncommon either, I have had patients with the same experience. They will work their way out, or if they are troublesome enough see the dentist and have them removed. Good luck!

JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Reply:warm salt water rinses will help, I had root canals before, same problem. adventually those bone fragments worked they're way out on they're own, along with me picking at them. They are very bothersome I agree, Oragel may help the discomfort, just don't pack it in there cause there's a hole. Make another appointment and have it checked because a dry socket can also form and you DON'T want one of those, OMG, worse than a toothaches anyday. Yes, it's normal because it happened to me more than once.

How long does swelling last after teeth are pulled?

So, I just had all three of my wisdom teeth pulled, and I was wondering how long I should expect to look like Marlon Brando.

How long does swelling last after teeth are pulled?
My swelling didn't really last more than a day.
Reply:i'm surprised that your dentist didn't tell you. most swelling will go down overnight. ice packs can help if you're extremely swollen.

if swelling has not subsided in 1 or 2 days i'd say to contact your dentist.
Reply:Can last approximately a few days or a week.

Help! i'm really sick after having 2 teeth pulled 3 days ago?

i had my 2 back lower teeth (not wisdom, that has been gone for years) pulled on wednesday afternoon. i had a sedation pill and laughing gas. both teeth broke and they had to drill the remaining bone matter out and stitch me up. also one of the teeth had periodonic disease really bad. i felt numb the first day, kind of sick on thursday, but really sick on friday and now today saturday. my stomach hurts, chest pains, dizzyness, cant stand up to long before i have to lie back down. (NOTE: 3 months ago, i also had 2 teeth pulled on the other side, no periodonical in either of those teeth but i did have both sedation and laughing gas and i had no problems whatsoever).

also, both times they gave me the same antibiotics and the same paid med, which i had no problem with the first time either. does anybody have any sugggestions? my mouth doesnt really hurt, just the rest of my body. (i dont even want to go to the ER or a clinic because there is NO WAY i can sit and wait my turn that long.

Help! i'm really sick after having 2 teeth pulled 3 days ago?
call the dentist that performed the procedure. Usually if there is in infection in the tooth once it is pulled it should not be a problem anymore. It's hard to say exactly why your stomach hurts you could have swallowed some blood or tooth matter. Make sure you are eating and drinking plenty of fluids. If your tooth is still bleeding it could be draining in your stomach. Call your dental office they usually have someone on call on the weekends or some kind of emergency number to reach them at. If you can not get a hold of them go to the emergency room.
Reply:You may have an infection that the antibiotics are not dealing with. Your symptoms are severe. You need to be checked. Have someone drive you to the doctors or ER, right away!
Reply:There could be something really serious going on. I suggest go now to a ER etc.. Tell them it is a real emergency , sometimes the only time they will see you immediately is when you say you feel like you are going to pass out.I had to do that myself . I know they feel everyone who goes into an ER has an emergency but this is not true. BE VERY VERY PERSISTENT ABOUT BEING SEEN RIGHT AWAY. Good Luck .
Reply:This is because of the the pain medications. I just had my teeth pulled out too, and when i take my pain medications i feel sick, and dizzy.

It will wear off soon. they are just side affects. if it does not wear off in about a day, call your doctar asap. =]

good luck, and feel better!

Braces.....and teeth being pulled...IM SCARED!?

Okay I am going to get 3 or 4 teeth pulled and I am going to be put to sleep...Will it hurt and oh yeah I am going to get braces. I AM SO SCARED. haha but Do braces hurt when you get them on and/or off?

Braces.....and teeth being pulled...IM SCARED!?
no, it won't hurt when you get your teeth pulled out, but just a lot of bleeding for a few hours and then it should stop.

when you first get braces it hurts a lot for the first 4 days or so, and then after that it'll be fine until you get them tightened, you can eat things such a yoghurt, jelly soups etc just soft foods for the first few days!

hipe this helps and yes it hurts a bit getting them off
Reply:you'll feel the pain of the pulled teeth when the novacain wears off. but they should give you a good pain killer. braces hurt depending on how bad your teeth are. if a lot of teeth need to be moved around you'll feel the pressure. it takes getting used to.
Reply:I have had a wisdom tooth pulled and with painkillers it didn't hurt a bit (felt better actually) no pain afterward either just follow dentist instructions exactly.

I have also had braces, and the painful bit comes after you've had them for a bit and they give you ulcers, and AFTER each dentist visit when they are tightened you can really feel them moving.

Your going to have 2 great rows of teeth soon, congrats!
Reply:Seriously dont be scared for the pulling of the teeth

Yes it may hurt but it is a pain that you won't cry over

It starts and is done wth, you'll just be glad that it is over with

Regarding braces...

Getting them on- it will be sore and your teeth will hurt. Make sure ou ask for some wax to help with the pain. You may get some cuts as well inside your mouth

Dont worry though, so many people have braces so dont feel insecure with them

REMEMBER- if people make fun of you, just think, youll hav straighter teeth then them ad you can show them off when they are taken off
Reply:Yes, wearing braces is a little painful initially
Reply:I had the EXACT same thing as you! Except I had to get 9 teeth pulled. if you are asleep, no it doesn't hurt. After you wake up you'll most likley be kind of confused and your mouth may be a little swollen. Pain meds and ice are amazing at helping the pain! Make sure if you have stitches to see if they are the dissolvable ones or if you have to go back and get them taken out, but you may not even need them, I had to get 10 stitches, but they all dissolved. Just rest and eat soft soft soft foods!! Pudding, applesause, broth, ice cream, things like that. Now braces: At first, of course they are going to hurt a bit, your moving your teeth. Just don't think about it and take some pain meds, and eat soft foods like above. After a few days, you won't even remember how it feels to have braces, it feels like normal teeth. i haven't gotten mine off yet, I've had them for almost 5 years. Any other ?'s please contact mee!

My son is getting 2 teeth pulled today and not getting any gas?

Our insurance does not pay for "silly gas" so he is just going to be numb from nasty shots. He is getting the canines pulled? -xXXXXx-

the little x's on the top. The large X's are the main four you lose when you are a little guy. He is almost 10 and he just got his braces off. The orthodontist wants these teeth pulled due to major crowding, he has a small mouth and some very macho teeth. Anyway. . .lol, my question issss. . .when we get home, any parental advice on what will make him feel better, what foods to eat, what will NOT hurts and so on? Thanks.

My son is getting 2 teeth pulled today and not getting any gas?
All the gas does is have a calming effect on your son. If he is an anxious child then give him the gas. My office charges 35. The gas won't have a numbing effect on him. That is why the injection is a must. At 10, those "baby" canines shouldn't have much root on them, so they should be fairly easy to remove. Also, the root on those are shaped like an ice cream cone and that makes them easier to get out as well. As for the post-op pain, it should be very minimal. I routinely tell parents to give them what they would for a headache (tylenol, ibuprofen, etc.)

Also, be careful that he doesn't bite his lip afterward because of the numbing. That should wear off in 1-1.5 hours. Hope this helped.
Reply:Then pay for it out of your own pocket. It can't be that much. Come on, why make him hurt? What is more important, the money or his feelings?
Reply:He really won't have an appetite the day of the surgery. Lukewarm soup broth, Sprite, mashed potatoes (plain) and possibly pudding or Jello, ice cream nothing too hot or too cold for the first 48 hours after surgery and make sure to keep in contact with his dentist if he continues bleeding after several hours, if he begins running a fever or starts complaining of new symptoms.

)o( Goddess Bless )o(
Reply:foods just ice cream or yogort or stuff like that give him tylonal or advil to down size on the pain i had the same thing done when i was 12 i'm 13 now so i kinda rember about what my did for me so if you do that it should help
Reply:tyenol for his pain, eat plenty of soup, any soft food is good. rinse mouth 3X per day with warm salty water.
Reply:i think the dentist should provide the best answer, however, give him milkshakes, pudding, etc. if you have any protein powder; put it in there too. he could put ice pack on front of mouth also. try to distract him so he wont be focused on pain--play games with him? etc. good luck!
Reply:lots of mashed potatos and pudding and jello. anything he will not have to chew. i have had horrible luck at the dentist and many teeth pulled as well...

applesauce is also a good one as long as it isn't the chunky kind. good luck make sure he takes some kind of advil or something before you go. he will need it once the "shots" wear off. trust me... make sure he does warm salt water rinses after every meal as well....
Reply:I had 4 teeth pulled out when I was younger - and it was all done with a simple injected anaesthetic (not nice!). My mum gave me lots of weetabix, farleys rusks, soup, hot chocolate!! Or you could make some smoothies by blending fruit and yoghurt!

It will only hurt to eat for a day or 2....so don't worry too much!!
Reply:hi,your son will be just fine they will numb him that is the only thing he will feel, just a little pinch where they are going to put the Novocaine the dentist should have reassured him that this will happen and everything will go well. explain everything to him what they are going to do. don't let him drink with a straw, give some Motrin, don't chew on that side, hot things may irritate it ask the dentist he will have more information. good luck!!!
Reply:When I some teeth taken out the food that worked best was mashed potatoes and gravy this satisfied my need for something solid. But by the next day I could eat chicken cooked well and softer vegetables. You also might try soup, smoothies, Instant Breakfast(with ice cream its sooo good).
Reply:he may not want any thing,, but if he does i sugges t lots of liquids

%26amp; POP CICLES.. at 10 he may be the best judge of what he can eat,, depending also of course on the suggestion from your dentist.. he's very brave if u ask me lots of adults wouldn't do what he is doing.. good luck
Reply:DIET: For the first 24-48 hours, you should maintain a diet of soft foods, such as Jell-O, pudding, yogurt, cream of wheat, mashed potatoes, clear soups, etc. Food that crumbles such as potato chips, popcorn, crackers, cookies, etc. should be avoided. Hot spicy foods should also be avoided to prevent irritation and burns of the extraction site. Also avoid carbonated (no soda) and hot beverages for 3-4 days. Avoid sticky foods like taffy. Eating immediately following the procedure is not recommended. When the numbness has worn off you may eat yet be sure to chew on the opposite side for the first 24 hours in order to keep food away from the extraction site. Also, keep anything sharp from entering the wound (i.e. eating utensils, fingers and other objects etc.) It is also important to drink 8 glasses of fluids in between meals and with meals. Try vegetable and or fruit juices or high-protein drinks. Cut food into small pieces to ease chewing. Return to a normal diet as tolerated.

The dentist should also suggest some things for pain. Good luck with your little guy! Don't worry about the gas, you're not a bad mother (it's highly over-rated).
Reply:I would suggest pudding, jello, soup....don't let him suck from straws whatever you do....stick to very soft foods....when my kids had to have teeth pulled that's what I did and they loved it! What else could a kid ask for? Pudding and jello!!! Yummy stuff....as long as he does not have cold sensitivity you could probably let him have a milk shake but he would have to eat it with a spoon because you can't suck out of straws after tooth extractions....

Hey don't feel bad about the laughing gas...I couldn't afford it either. We have five kids....my kids had to have novacaine....they did just fine....he will too...my son when he was about 6 had to have novacaine and they had to push the needle in so far that it bent as they were trying to inject it far enough into the gums so he wouldn't feel pain...just watching it made me feel pain.....so I understand....

Just make sure if you give him soups they obviously aren't too hot...common sense....he won't be up to brushing his teeth today I am sure...they usually recommend waiting until the next day to do that anyway.....

Good luck to your little guy!
Reply:The dentist I grew up going to does not use gas. I never had gas until I was an adult and went to a different dentist in another state.

Then, to me, it was all hype, it didn't do squat to calm me. I have had more work done without gas than with gas. That being said, his gums will be sore for a few days, and he will only want to eat mushy things. Just load up on advil and soup, and make plenty of trips to taco bell for bean burritos. If he had his braces off, I'm sure he's used to the soreness from the tightening. It won't be much worse than that.
Reply:I had two teeth pulled when I was twelve for similar reasons. For the first tooth, I requested nitrous oxide (the "silly gas" you were referring to), because I was horrified of shots at that age. To make a long story short, I felt EVERYTHING. It still to this day stands out in my mind as one of the most painful things I've ever experienced. The gas didn't do a thing for me.

When I went back to have the second tooth pulled, they gave me Novocaine, and I remember sitting there in horror after I was numbed, waiting to relive the horrible experience again. Before I knew what had happened, the dentist said, "There, all done!" I didn't even know it had happened.

I just wanted to share the experience, and let you know that your son will probably be better off without the gas; it didn't do a bit of good for me.

As for what will make him feel better afterwards, I recovered fairly quickly. I only took one day off of school, stayed home and played video games and ate soft foods. It wasn't a very long recovery time at all.

Getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled...will it hurt?

Im getting all four wisdom teeth pulled at once. Apparently they have cavities which is why my dentist wants to do it since they havent caused me any discomfort. They are all showing out of the gums, but Im wondering how much it will hurt. He is going to give me local anesthesia and laughing gas. Has anyone had them pulled this way before? is the pressure and popping noise unbearable? Thats what I am most worried about!

Getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled...will it hurt?
the pain is something you would not believe pal
Reply:You shouldn't feel anything while they are being taken out. You may be sore afterwards %26amp; may need to take some pain meds. It can take some people a while to heal. The dentist can recommend something or give you a script.
Reply:There wont be popping noice. It will not be a pleasure, however it will not be too painful with local anesthesia. I got them pulled out without laughing gas, only with local, however not all at once.

It is quite common to get them pulled, so I would not be too much concerned. It is hard to fix them, and since you have cavities, it is better to do it now then to wait for pain.
Reply:yup it hurts so bad, its like haveing a million knives stabbed in your mouth, the pain is so bad u wanna die!!!!
Reply:I have had mine removed. It's not the most plesent thing and it does hurt after the anastetic wears off! Don't worry after a few days it will be fine.
Reply:haha... oh man, have fun with that

im sure you'll get paint medication... but dangggg, when i got mine pulled out it hurt like anythingggg! deffinetly after the pain medication wears off =p

Good luck m8!!!
Reply:I agree with Blue (very strongly) that you shouldn't need any anesthesia before the procedure. I had an impacted one removed, plus 3 others that were up and out, but decayed, like yours, and there was no need for anesthesia or laughing gas. I did get a script for tylenol with codiene, which I used for the impacted one, but not the others. It's not fun, but hardly unbearablel.
Reply:Everyone that I know, myself included, has been put to sleep before removal of their wisdom teeth. When this is the case you simply wake up an hour later with some numbness. Everyone is different, you may have some pain, or you may be like me who never had to touch my pain meds. I would recomend asking if you could be put under. Its a little more expensive, but much easier then being awake I would expect. Ask you doctor what's right for you.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth taken out all at once, but I decided to get put under for it.

Being somewhat of a weenie when it comes to getting my teeth touched, I really didn't want to chance it.

It's your own decision which way to go, but if your dentist gives you local anesthesia and laughing gas, you won't feel any pain. You will, however feel pressure and hear the noises.

Now the laughing gas will make it all feel like it's happening in a haze - as if everything is only happening on the periphery of your conscience. Imagine a sensation you should be feeling with your whole body, but you're really just feeling it at the outer tips of your fingers. It's the best comparison I have.

If you want to block out the noises, I'd recommend a couple of good tunes on your mp3 player and a set of noise-reducing ear phones.

I had a root planing done with laughing gas - it's a pretty nasty procedure. The laughing gas helped to make it perfectly bearable. It didn't really bother me at all.

One thing I'd talk to your dentist about however:

Usually, you're not supposed to get local anesthesia for all four teeth at the same time. The shots for your lower jaw will also numb your tongue, so dentists usually do one side at a time to avoid the danger of you biting your tongue or accidentally choking on it.

Make sure you discuss your options with him. There are plenty of dental clinics that will be able to do the procedure by putting you under and pulling the teeth while you sleep.

I've had it done that way and went home afterwards just two hours after I woke up.

Your dentist may not recommend this simply because he isn't equipped to do the procedure like this and doesn't want to lose you as a patient.

Getting your teeth pulled?

well i have to get my four wisdom teeth pulled tomorrow and i wondering do anybody have any tips to help me

Getting your teeth pulled?
After the extractions, avoid any sucking motion, such as smoking or drinking through a straw. That can cause a painful dry socket.

After a tooth extraction, a blood clot forms in the socket where the tooth was. Sucking can dislodge that clot, allowing food particles and other bacteria in. The result is something you definitely do not want to experience.
Reply:clove oil for pain. placing a warm wash cloth agaist your face helps. listen to the dentist, to avoid dry socket.

Getting 8 Teeth Pulled?

Later this year I'm going to be getting eight (yes eight) teeth pulled to make room for braces.

I'm unbelievably nervous. What should I expect? Will it hurt? I'm also afraid of being put to sleep .. is local anesthetic appropriate?

Getting 8 Teeth Pulled?
Eight teeth are alot to have extracted with a local anesthetic. If you're afraid of "being put to sleep" you can opt for a light sedation: Most patients feel so relaxed they fall asleep on their own and don't remember anything after the procedure. You're not forced into unconsciousness (that's probably the part that would scare you, right?) but you won't care about all those injections to numb up the sites for 8 extractions!
Reply:8 ...so 4 wisedom teeth and 4 bicuspids??? then it dosnt change a thing to your smile. local anesthesic is appropriate and u wont feel a thing
Reply:You will feel pressure, but no pain, or very little if at all. Just lots of pressure. Get a good painkiller for later- they can prescribe some to you.
Reply:Getting teeth pulled can be a bit scary at first. I've had nine teeth pulled (5 babies, 4 permanent). it won't hurt, they'll numb you or put you to sleep. they'll probably give you a choice on which you want, i would choose anesthesia if i were you. After you get used to all the extra room in your mouth it won't be a big deal. Good Luck!!
Reply:Well if you are like me and am terrified of the dentist you would want to be put under. If you can handle them just numbing you, then go for it.
Reply:it all depends. I have one of my tooth pulled and it was the worst pain you can imagine. I believe i had 3 or 4 shots to numb my mouth but i surely still felt the pain. Got be tearing up and all.

What is the difference between getting your wisdom teeth pulled and regular teeth?

Im getting my wisdom teeth pulled Friday. Ive gotten regular molars pulled, and ive gotten root lengthenings and all that....but, is there a BIG difference between getting your regular teeth and wisdom teeth pulled? Im just kind of scared.

What is the difference between getting your wisdom teeth pulled and regular teeth?
If your wisdom teeth have erupted then no, there isn't any difference to extracting them. If they haven't erupted, then they'll have to go under the tissue to get them. Not a whole lot of difference as far as healing goes, unless they are impacted in the bone.
Reply:extraction is an extraction, but there are more complication with wisdom teeth.

1. location...it is more difficult for the dentist

2. closer lcoation to the nerve (lower teeth) or sinus (upper teeth)

3. more variation in wisdom teeth....they have much more curved roots compared to other teeth.

4. sometimes wisdom teeth are impacted....removal of bone is necessary to extract them.
Reply:Wisdom teeth can be a little tougher because they are sometimes badly formed. It's also tougher for the dentist to get that far back into your mouth. If possible, you may want to consider being put under sedation for the procedure; when you wake up, it will all be over and done with. You may be a little sore, but your dentist should give you a script for painkillers for a few days to take the edge off. Other than that, follow your after-care instructions, and you'll be fine.

Good luck!
Reply:I don't think there is. If your wisdom teeth have already come out and erupted all the way, it would be no different as it's just a molar only further back into your mouth. Some numbing will be there, so you wont experince all the pain. Unless you need surgery because your teeth did not grow right, it should be all right. Besides, many people have to go through this. After you get it extracted, it might hurt and get swollen a little since the entire root is pulled out too, you might need to take Tyenol. It most likely WILL bleed if you mess around with it. Let the blood clot, and it will be back to normal soon.

I will need one of my wisdom teeth pulled out through surgery since one of them is impacted diagonally. Meaning, it will need to have my gums cut, dig through that tissue, find the tooth, take a plier and pull it out. I'm not looking forward to that, but I'm sure its no better than what you need to get. Probably worse even. o-o

At least I will be sleeping.
Reply:Hi, I have just come back from the dentist 1 hour ago. I had 2 molars out and 1 wisdom tooth out. All were pretty much the same. Had a fair few needles to get my mouth very numb, the dentist left me for about 15 minutes for them to work then it only took 5 minutes to pull three teeth out. I was shocked by how quick it was and besides a fair amount of pressure there was no pain. I walked in at 3:00 and was out by 3:25. Don't be too worried it will be over before you know it.
Reply:I've had 7 molars pulled and all 4 wisdom teeth. My wisdom teeth had 'erupted' but then crumbled down to the roots so basically, all they pulled out was the root system of each tooth. The only difference I noticed with the wisdom teeth was that I had very slight swelling in my face. Some people swell up a lot. I had no swelling when my other teeth were removed. My jaw was a bit more sore from keeping my mouth open more than normal. They also stitched up my gums after the wisdom teeth were extracted. I did not get stitches when my regular molars were pulled.

Swelling after teeth pull?

i had teeth pulled for dentures two weeks ago and now there is swelling under my tongue and it is painful to swallow

Swelling after teeth pull?
First, it's really freaky that we have the same name, and I just went to my dentist yesterday! lol

About the pain and swelling though, follow up with your doctor ASAP because it may be an infection. I have a tooth infection (that's why I went in yesterday) and had the same symptoms along with sore throat pain on the bad tooth side. You may need antibiotics.

Do not put this off, because infections can be very serious! I do not think you should still be in that amount of pain after 2 weeks. Doesn't hurt to get it checked out.

Good Luck!
Reply:Tina, do you have your dentures yet? If you do, chances are the lower denture is rubbing the gum tissue under your tongue. Only the dentist can fix this for you.

You should be rinsing your mouth several times a day with warm salt water, this will help soothe the sore area and keep it clean.

Make an appointment soon.

I had teeth pulled and i think i am pregnant, Whats the risk?

I had my 4 wisdom teeth pulled and and i got my period the day before the surgery but now i have been having symptoms of pregnancy. Also i didnt quite get my period this month i spotted for 3 days so i am a little nervious. So i want to know what is the risk of the baby NOT only because of the X-Rays but also cuz of the novicane and after care pills. Any input would help until i test myself tomorrow! Thanks

I had teeth pulled and i think i am pregnant, Whats the risk?
Most of the OB/GYN's that I talk to have no problems with a pregnant woman having dental work done as long as a lead shield is used and no nitrous is used.

Okay, now knowing that they put you to sleep, you need to see your OB/GYN and see if you are pregnant. If so tell them about the sedation that you had. There isn't any input that is going to make you feel better until you see the doctor. I don't know what the effects on a pregnancy could be cause this is usually never done.
Reply:I don't think there's any risk in that. :)
Reply:I had a molar pulled while I was pregnant, with Novocaine and a little pain medication.. did not effect my pregnancy
Reply:the x-ray was in your mouth so was the novicane is a local dont worry
Reply:People do all sorts of stuff to their bodies before they discover they are pregnant. I wouldn't be too concerned. Seriously.
Reply:Although it's easier said than done, just relax %26amp; try to not worry about it. Wait until you test positive %26amp; THEN consult a doctor %26amp; think about the dangers. Worry is just a waste of time %26amp; you especially don't need to do it if you are pregnant! There is nothing you can do about it tonight.... Just go to sleep! G'night %26amp; good luck!
Reply:no risk.... you got your period the day before surgery... so you weren't pregnant during the xray, procedure or medication afterwards. by the time you could have gotten pregnant the medication would have been out of your system
Reply:Brooke and Huskymom have given you good answers. If you were NOT pregnant at the time of surgery, obviously it's no big deal. If you WERE pregnant - which is possible even if you had one period - then what's done is done. It's true that there are risks, but if there's a 10% chance of damage, there's a 90% chance of "not damage." Just assume that everything is fine until you have an actual reason to think otherwise.

Drinking after getting teeth pulled?

I just had my 2 upper wisdom teeth pulled today at the dentist office (I didnt have to have surgery or pain meds because they were not impacted - they just numbed the area %26amp; pulled them out). It's been about 6 hours and there is no pain or discomfort at all. I am going to avoid smoking %26amp; drinking through a straw %26amp;carbonated beverages to prevent dry socket, but is it ok to drink alcohol at all? It will be about 12 hours after the extraction, and I was thinking of having a couple of vodka/orange juices tonight (the dentist did suggest to drink juices).....

Drinking after getting teeth pulled?
Not a good idea.
Reply:The alcohol will dilate the blood vessels and potentially cause the loss of the blood clot(s). You want the clots to mature at least 24 hours before challenging them. That's the risk, the choice however, is yours.
Reply:at the dentist office that i work at they suggest no alcohol for 24 hours because of the alcohol thinning your blood which could cause excess bleading... i'm sure if you stick to a couple drinks you'll be ok but dry socket hurts like a *****

Pull teeth out to straighten it out?

my teeth is a bit crowded. will it spread itself evenly if i get my molar teeth puuled out?

Pull teeth out to straighten it out?
In order to correct the alignment of teeth there must be sufficient space to shift the teeth during orthodontic treatment. If they are crowded already, common practice is to create space by extracting the bi-cuspid's or the pre-molars. These are the smaller teeth in front of your larger molars.

The teeth may shift some on their own when a space is created, but it wouldn't be enough to correct the problem. Orthodontic treatment is always required to move the teeth into their correct alignment on both the upper and lower arch.

Removing healthy teeth isn't always required. When we can we will create space using an appliance. Your treatment will be based on your teeth and yours alone. Not everyone has the exact same treatment; what is good for one may not work for you. I would advise you follow your dentist advice, he knows what is best for your particular problem.
Reply:By molar teeth I assume you mean your wisdom teeth or 3rd molars. It will help the crowding from getting worse but it will not correct the damage already done. If you were taking out pre-molars the rest of the teeth would naturally want to shift to fill the space but it will not look like straight teeth are suppose to look like. The only way you can achieve that is to have braces.
Reply:My orthodontist wanted to do this to me as a teen... if they had it wouldn't have made an ounce of difference...

I had braces - it fixed everything... and I didn't have to have healthy teeth removed for no reason.
Reply:Hello, it's not a common practice to pull teeth to achieve a better alignment, but in some cases that is indeed the procedure that needs to be done. So, YES, pulling a tooth may be required to allow other teeth to be properly aligned as they grow in place. You should see an Orthodontist for a proper diagnosis. He or she is the best qualified dental professional to determine what course of action should be taken to produce the best tooth alignment for you. Good luck and I wish you well.

Help!...getting wisdom teeth pulled...please help!?

i'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled this saturday ((just my two bottoms)), but they aren't putting me to sleep. they are just going to numb them and pull them, because they are already out of my gums. but does it hurt? and does anybody know how long i'm going to be in pain and stuff?? help! i'm nervous!

Help!...getting wisdom teeth pulled...please help!?
The injections are a little uncomfortable, but that soon goes as the anaesthetic starts working. You hear a bit of a crunching sound as the dentist wiggles the teeth before extraction, but it doesn't hurt. Mine stopped bleeding just after extraction. I found it difficult to speak properly for a few hours after until the numbness wore off. No pain in the gums, or swelling cheeks. The gums are a little tender for a few days, but you can take regular pain killers if you feel pain. Your dentist will explain how to care for the gums. Don't worry - the anticipation really is worse than the actual event.
Reply:It shouldn't hurt really, you will probably feel a strange "pressure" type of a feeling, and will probably hear them tearing out, which is kind of freaky.

After, I found it did hurt for a few days after, but just follow their instructions for after care, and you should be fine!!

Good luck, and don't be too nervous, it's honestly not as bad as it sounds or you may have heard. I had all 4 taken out at once and have lived to tell my tale!!
Reply:hello. DO NOT BE NERVOUS. you probably will be numbed by the dentist doing the effort (I was, when). JUST FOLLOW HIS DIRECTIONS (maybe you have a female dentist, I don't know). You will be in their control, and they do not want to hurt you. : } It is strange, yes. but needed. Our human mouths are too small to have the wisdom teeth with our mature teeth.
Reply:nah i just had my teeth pulled today, its not painful at all, i wasnt put to sleep either. its a bit of a pinch, and you're done. dont even be nervous. : ) and put ice on your cheeks afterwards so your face doesnt decide to swell

also i havent felt any pain yet, i just took the med and went to sleep for a few hours. the meds you take just make you a little dizzy you'll be fine
Reply:You will feel the pressure of the teeth being extracted. For your other concerns, you should talk with your dentist. Make sure he/she gives you instructions about what to do when you get home and what to do during the healing process. A wise thing to do is to write down any questions you have for the dentist and bring your list with you to the appointment so that you can discuss these things with the dentist.

All 4 Wisdom Teeth Pulled?

I got all my wisdom teeth pulled this past Friday (3 days ago) and everytime that I swallow, somethings I feel like I'm going to get that dry socket thing or pull my stiches out. Even though I have no bleeding anymore and such I just have that feeling like I'm going to do something to the holes.

I don't think that I have the dry socket thing becuase I'm not in as much pain as I was yesterday and I'm not sucking on anything but I feel like when I swallow something then I am even If I'm not. Anyone else experience this?

All 4 Wisdom Teeth Pulled?
If your still swollen, it feels funny when you swallow. Thats normal, so no worries.

If you have stopped bleeding, you have nothing to worry about. The clot/scabbing process has fully covered the site and attached itself in place. Your healing process is in full swing! You wont get a dry socket. It would have happened by now. And trust me, the pain would be completely UNBEARABLE! Your sucking restriction has expired now, as well. It's ok, to suck things.. like using straws and spitting! Congrats.. you've made it through the tough part! hehe... Youve won the greatest prize ever... FOOD!!!!! Eat... and enjoy! LOL....
Reply:it is the swelling that makes it feel like that.
Reply:don't know what swallowing has to do with dry socket. if your pain is better you more than likely don't have dry socket. you will know it if you do usually by the third day. the pain will get worse.
Reply:dry sockets hurt. you would be in more pain. my oral surgeon (when i had this done) also told me that one does not get dry sockets from sucking on straws etc. he told me that it's from carbon dioxide exposure, like from smoking. your surgical spots are going to be sensitive for a while. you probably won't be able to chew normally for a couple of weeks.
Reply:I believe everyone that has had this done feels the same as you do. I too was concerned about not doing exactly as i was told but everything turned out fine and within a few days i was eating like there was no tommorrow. Try this pour salt in a cup of warm water and rinse your mouth from time to time. Relax it will be ok.

Getting wisdom teeth pulled :(?

Tommorow I am getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled and I am so nervous. I am going to my regular dentist and he is not putting me to sleep. Only giving me laughing gas....has anyone ever heard of this??

Any tips??

If you have had yours done, how long were you out from work?

Getting wisdom teeth pulled :(?
I had the laughing gas when I had my wisdom teeth pulled. I don't remember a thing (thank goodness). I had two teeth impacted so my recovery time was a little longer. I would assume that you'll be up and running within a few days.
Reply:I had four pulled last year. I only received a local anesthetic, which was actually enough. I thought I would need more than that. The dentist will even tell you that you feel more pressure than pain. The only real hassle is keeping the gauze in your mouth afterwards. You will probably bleed for a while, but the medication you get makes you pretty drowsy, so you sleep for a while.

You'll still be nervous going in there, but after the first one is out, you'll figure there's little to worry about. I did go through a lot of gauze, so make sure you have enough of it at home.
Reply:my friend got that laughing gas too. ppl say it feels really good
Reply:Hello, I have had mine taken out a few years ago(All four too). If you smoke.. try not to because you will get "Dry Sockets" and it hurts.. they put cloves to help heal if this would happen to you....

You will be out a couple of days. I was laid up for at least 4days. Just remember you will be swollen like a chipmunk but it will go down. Get your favorite liquids out! You probably won't want to eat any solid food for a few days... Good luck and don't worry you will be fine!!
Reply:i had laughing gas and i was there for about an hour ummm i only needed 3 days off of work but my jaw was a little sore after the operation because i had to have part of my jaw bone removed yea sounds painful......but good luck hope your teeth come out ok
Reply:People have all sorts of reasons for having them removed! If they are healthy, not causing any problems to other teeth, the best I have come across is "They are difficult to keep clean and may cause problems in the future" Regardless I would not have all four extracted at the same time, and I would insist that a local anesthetic be used and lastly that a "Oral Surgeon do the procedure!!! GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:I went to an oral surgeon to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed. 36 hours later I ended up in the hospital for 5 days with a staph infection which almost killed me.

I hope and pray you have a better experience than I did.

I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled! How much does it hurt compared to getting second premolar pulled?

I think it was the second pre-molar that was pulled when I got my braces. I had 2 pulled at a time under local anesthetics and it didn't hurt too bad. Does anyone know how this will compare to getting a wisdom teeth pulled? Should i go under local or full anesthetic??

I'm frightened. :(

I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled! How much does it hurt compared to getting second premolar pulled?
I think standard procedure is to sedate you. It is pretty major, but they give you pain meds. Try having it done on a Thursday and take a 3 day weekend to recover.

Get them all done. I had mine done 2 at a time and the second go was hell.
Reply:well they can put u to sleep if ure that scared n after its gonna look like u have two meatballz in ur mouth lol
Reply:I had mine done with local. and laughing gas, and I handled it ok. but my hubby has to be fully under, it depends on the person. if you handled it before, you can handle it again.
Reply:Last wisdom tooth I had pulled I just had it numb like normal. Instead of being put to sleep....

That is up to the person and how you react to pain. It's not much different then having a molar removed. Only different is the roots are deeper and larger and they sew your gums. That was the worse part to me. They did mine....

But

Don't be scared. It doesn't take long and it's over. Just rest.

Good Luck

Reply:Well i don't know if this will help, but when my brother got his wisdom teeth pulled they numbed his mouth and after that my brother said he couldn't feel anything. Even though his mouth was bleeding a lot.
Reply:Yeah um wisdom teeth pulling hurts!!! is full anesthetic when they put you to sleep, if it is don't do it, but if it isn't do it cause they hurt I had all mine pulled out (four of them) it hurt so bad my mouth was so sore it was really difficult to talk or open my mouth, blood everywhere! but it should be okay!! lol! Wow I made it sound really good, huh! Sorry it really doesn't hurt get all the anesthetic they offer because it's painful, don't be scared just deal with it, k!
Reply:It's a major procedure. I'm pretty sure they will put you out.

Don't be scared, just make sure they give you enough pain pills for several days. Keep the gauze rolls tight to stop the bleeding. It takes a while since the holes are large and deep. When you first wake up you won't feel anything. Just keep telling yourself it has to be done. You'll be fine.
Reply:I had local for mine...it depends on ur pain tolerance, if its the top/bottom wisdoms, and if theyre impacted etc. I've heard the bottom ones are more painful becuz theyre deeper into the jawbone. But really it depends on u...some people take long periods of time off work, I went back to work the next day, some people say that root canals are the "worst" pain ever, I found it less painful than a filling. If the dentist is good, u shouldnt have any major pain, swelling or bruising afterwards.
Reply:It all depends how you have them taken out. I had my right wisdom teeth removed in full with the roots in tact and the actual procedure did not hurt at all (and i hate injections in the mouth) a day after my mouth ached and i resolved it with a hot water bottle (filled with hot tap water not boiling water) and that solved the problem. However if you have to have the tooth broken to remove it and your gum cut open it will hurt and quite a lot, usually involving stiches.

Find out what procedure you are having - full removal with root intact or where they break the tooth as i do not reccomend general anesthetic unless it is the latter that is going to happen.

Chances are everything should be ok if you are pregnant, the worst part is the xrays but the dental xrays are pretty small and fast, as far as the novicane that is locolized to your mouth and doesn't go in the blood system but I would be carful with after care pills until you know for use. Use lots of ice on your mouth that might help right now for pain.
Reply:x rays in your head wont affect your womb, the novacain shouldnt either.
Reply:you should swallowed!!!!!! lol
Reply:novicane is perfictly fine, I had my wisdome teeth pulled when I was 7 month prego, no problem and if they gave you tyelonal with codiene, that is also fine....generally there should be no problem with ant of it

Getting wisdom teeth pulled tomarrow..?

I am getting 2 of my wisdom teeth pulled tomarrow and I am scared. I am scared because they said they will have to put me under to do so. What can I do to not be so afraid. All I do is think about it?? I know I have to do it reguardless. Also what can I use for me not to swell up so bad? and what kind of things to eat like on the day after? I heard salt water will help you heal faster. Is that true?

Getting wisdom teeth pulled tomarrow..?
i went to the dentist and had a wisdom tooth pulled... it took all of 15 minutes.. i walked in sat in the chair he froze it and not even 5 minutes later i was leaving...but yeah i have heard horror stories.. but hey if they are putting you out then enjoy.. you won`t feel a thing..
Reply:I got all four of mine pulled at the same time about a month and a half ago. I was also put under with no2 (laughing gas), it really did make me trip out for a bit. I was really nervous before and during but I really couldnt feel a thing. So for you being worried about the operation because of the pain, dont, you wont feel it. For the soreness and swelling, ice packs help alot and also no rinsing for the first couple hours until the wounds stop bleeding and scab up. Salt water is not until the next day. The healing process is probably worse then the teeth pulling but no where near the nightmare I had in mind. Good luck!
Reply:It won't be bad at all. You should gargle w/warm salt water the day after, and continue to brush, a clean mouth heals faster. Oh and don't eat anything that can irritate the areas. STAY AWAY FROM MOUTHWASH it will BURN!

I'm having my teeth pulled tomorrow?

Tomorrow, I am having two teeth pulled, and two weeks from then two more will be pulled. All I know is that they will be giving me 'happy gas' and numbing stuff and pain pills. Can anyone tell me what I should expect, and if there will be major pain afterwards? PLEASE ANSWER! This is the first time they will ever be pulled and I am a little nervous....

I'm having my teeth pulled tomorrow?
Every tooth I have had removed never hurt afterwards. It really isn't a big deal.
Reply:First of all I find it hard to believe that you never had your teeth pulled. At least your baby teeth anyways. Well if you are having your teeth pulled, there really isn't anything you need to worry about. When I was younger I had my baby teeth pulled and they only gave me novacaine and I didn't feel anything. When I was 24, I had my wisdom teeth pulled and they gave me a drug through an IV to put me to asleep. It was really nothing cause when I woke up I didn't fee a thing.
Reply:at first it will feel numb because they do it so fast, but trust me youll feel it later
Reply:omg this is such a coincidence. my sister is getting her wisdom teeth pulled out tomorrow and more teeth in two weeks. that is such a coincidence. wow. i just know that there will be major pain for you honey. good luck
Reply:it doesnt hurt...

they pulled 2 teeth from mee 2..

it did hurt a lil bit but not

really...

theres nothing to be scared

about....it doesn really hurt

it like hurts for 2 seconds and then its alright

so dont be scared or anything!

and

as long

as they numb it

and all that stuff...

then yea...it will

be fine!

okay!!!!

oh, and there WONT be any major

pain!

Hope i helped!!
Reply:I just had 6 tooth extractions. The dentist put some numbing gel all over my gums first. Then had freezing shortly after.I never felt a thing and in no time my teeth were out.So i would'nt worry too much about it.Just try to keep calm and everything should be fine. And of course you will have some pain after as your gums will be sore for awhile.Hope you will be back to normal soon.

I had ten teeth pulled out when i was sleeping but now I have to get two awake does it hurt?

I Had ten teeth pulled out!!!I was asleep though so I dont know if it hurts when your awake?Tomorrow I have to get them pulled out in the morning so answer back soon!!

I had ten teeth pulled out when i was sleeping but now I have to get two awake does it hurt?
I have had 4 pulled awake and as long as they give you enough numbing medicine in your shot it won't hurt, it will jsut be uncomfortable.

Usually the worst part is just feeling the pressure for a few secons when it is coming out, other than that you dont feel a thing.

My tip is just close your eyes and think about sometihng else and it will go by faster.

Good luck!
Reply:well no i dont think it hurst because when i ws little they had exracted all my teeth bu that ws because they gave me ansetastsha srry about speeling.

but when they just pull it out.. well i would say it hurts for a while and then that feeling dessappers. hope i helped
Reply:No way! i had two teeth pulled too a few years ago.

the only thing that stings a little is the shots to numb

your mouth, and after that you feel NOTHING.

they will pull it out in 5 seconds and you will think

"That was it?!?"

dont be worried at all.

hope it goes well!!!!

:)
Reply:If they give you enough Novocain no it wont hurt. But if you get someone like I did then yes it does. He thought that 2 shots of Novocain was enough when it wasnt and I had told them that he refused to give me anymore. But after they were pulled I didnt really feel any pain at all.

everyone is different but chances are you will feel pain

but you will be given pain killers for it

Now afterwards is another story...there will more than likely be some pain involved. Depends on your pain tolerance.

It most likely will hurt when they wake you up, but honestly, don't be afraid :) I was always scared of the dentist, but after I got a root canal done, it has been fine. It won't hurt at all during, but it will hurt after, but not as bad as you probably think. They will give you pain killers to stop the pain as well as probably some antibiotics. Don't worry, wisdom teeth pulling is a easy procedure, especially when you're asleep.

Pull out about 7 teeth?

My poodle is 17 months old and her Vet recently told me that she has to have some baby teeth pulled out. Is that necesary?

Pull out about 7 teeth?
Better now than later. Toy breeds are notorious for bad teeth. It gets really expensive if you don't stay on top of it.
Reply:If you believe its causing the dog pain then yes. But if their is overcrowding and bleeding of the gums then yes.
Reply:if the vet sez so then yes. maybe check out another vet, BUT you have to find a vet you trust. welcome to the wonderful world of responsible dog ownership!
Reply:If your poodle is in pain, then yes. But if he/she is fine, then I think your Vet is just trying to take your money.
Reply:Yes, they could cause major problems later on. Also it's painful for your dog to have them crowding the adult teeth. Both of you will be happier for having it done. All the best;^)
Reply:I would definitely have them removed. Retaining baby teeth is bad in the long run. It causes overcrowding and will definitely lead to plaque build-up. It may cost you more money in another couple of years.

Getting Wisdom Teeth Pulled.?

I went today to the Dentist and I need to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth pulled. I'm only 15...kinda young, huh?

Anyway who has some really good soup recipes, homemade icream flavors recipes, or anything else really soft that I can eat after the surgery

Thanks %26lt;3

Getting Wisdom Teeth Pulled.?
Ok so I do not have any recipes, sorry, but a word to the wise, try to avoid extremes in temperature (very hot or very cold) If you don't, it can be excruciating!
Reply:After surgery, you're going to want to sleep. I pretty much slept the rest of the day until morning.

In terms of food, mashed potatoes, any type of soups as long as it doesn't have big chunks... apple sauce, yogurt, rice.

For recipes, I like going to allrecipes.com

Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out last year. It is really not so bad, but I've had my tonsils out and it was a horrible experience, so maybe thats why it wasn't so bad.

Its going to be hard the first few hours, because you will have gauze packed in your mouth because of the bleeding. You will have to eat something though to take a pain pill before the numbness wears off though, otherwise you will find it to be very painful.

I mostly ate jello, homemade milkshakes (you will find that dairy products produce alot of phlegm though), rice, and my dad cooked me angel hair pasta, let it cool and topped it with cheese and a little salt. Those were my favorite because they were kind of easy to swallow with minimal chewing, and made my stomach feel like it was actually getting full.

You just have to stay away from very hot foods or drinks, crunchy foods, and straws, for about two weeks after. It can cause dry sockets which are not fun! Your dentist will give you the details on that part though =) good luck!
Reply:Poor you! It's going to be ok...and a good excuse to eat ice cream! Here are a few ideas:

(Carb sources)

-Fruit smoothies

-Jello

-Puddings

-Yogurt

-Creamy mashed potatoes (just add in extra milk or cream)

-Creamy oatmeal

-Malt-o-meal hot cereal

-Soup: Split pea, tomato, cream of mushroom

-Custard

(Protein sources)

-Chicken and rice soup

-Peanut butter

-Eggs: Poached, soft-boiled, scrambled

-Creamy refried pinto or black beans

-Tofu (There is a kind of tofu that is really soft it's called Silken. It is like a thick yogurt. Top it with a little sesame oil, chopped green onions and a little soy sauce. It's good. Or you can just add it to a steamy pot of chicken broth.)

-Steamed fish fillets (seabass, salmon, cod)

Does getting your teeth pulled out hurt?

On Tuesday I have to get my two..not my front teeth but the teo next to them pulled out on the top on both sides! I have gotton one pulled be4 but that was a while ago and i need to know if it hurts or not! Pleaseeeee be truthful about it b/c i am really nervous and scared to get this done!

Does getting your teeth pulled out hurt?
Hon, I seriously know how you feel. Last year I had to get too teeth removed to make room for some other ones. Of course I was kinda freaked out when I went in there..but I just sat down and let the dentist do his thing. The novacaine went in just like normal and I couldnt really feel anything. I didnt even know that he had taken it out until I saw it! Honestly it just felt like a bunch of slighly painful poking and a twist and it came right out. In my opinion, No it doesnt hurt and having braces on my teeth was about 20 times more painful. Once the novoacaine wears off, its a little sore, but no problem it goes away in a couple days. Right now you just have to quit worrying so much! Relax hon coz otherwise it will make it worse. Youre dentist is a professional and he's well skilled to remove teeth the easiest and most painless way possible. You'll be just fine, I promise. And it'll probably be over before you know it! Just relax and take care! :)

Reply:I have to get 11 and then i get braces and i am scared!

so if you get two your okay but 11 is hard! Report It

Reply:ive loss most of mine from a car wreck it dont hurt most of the time you just feel a pull is all might feel some after but most of the time it just one day
Reply:iiii man im sorry to tell you it will hurt after the anesteshia I have had teeth taken out before.
Reply:yah it dose.

my sister got hers pullen out and her face was swollen for like 2 weeks. (but those where her back teeth so yours might not swell)
Reply:Well of course it hurts. You're getting your teeth pulled out of your head. Are they going to put you under while they do it? If so it won't be as bad. The worst will be over when you wake up. If they are not putting you under then they will numb it with a shot or give you gas. The shot hurts in case you are wondering. Why are you having those teeth pulled out anyway?
Reply:It wasnt painful for me. THe only painful part was when they stuck the shot in your cheek to numb your mouth. You shouldnt be able to feel any pain after that. Your gum will bleed for a pretty long time after that, so dont worry about that. Just dont be nervous. When i got mine pulled, i was nervous for nothing! just dont worry it will be fine.!!!

GOOD LUCKKKKKK

-jess
Reply:well, if youre scared, if your dentist isn't gonna put any numbing, then ask him to!!! once, i had to get my gum popped becuz there was pus inside of it, and it didn't hurt because the dentist put numbing there. and dont worry about the numbing needle, either, because it doesn't hurt. and my gum didn't even feel bad at all afterwards either!! ah, the magics of this world...........

and also, when youre mervous, usually it hurts more, becuz youre tense. just relax about it.

my sis had root canal when she was 6, and she didn't say it hurt, so i'm guessing that it didn't hurt, but felt weird afterwards becuz she wasn't used to it. i think that it';; be about the same for you. and i think that she had numbing, too.............

Hope this helped! Good luck!!! (and those two teeth are baby teeth, righrt?)
Reply:If your teeth are infected, the it actually feels GOOD to have them taken out! It's the week AFTERwards that is the most painful beause you can't chew anything hard! Be sure %26amp; buy yourself some applesauce, mashed potatoes, soups, puddings %26amp; Jell-o, cus you won't feel like shopping AFTER you get them pulled. Keep a jug of water handy for rinsing %26amp; spitting. Whatever you do, DON'T swallow your spit, because it will have blood %26amp; puss in it %26amp; you should get rid of that ASAP in a tissue or sink or toilet or???
Reply:First of all, your dentist will give you something to numb up the gum area where the tooth is going to be pulled. Once you can't feel anything, all you should feel is some pressure and possibly a tugging sensation, but no actual pain.

Once the numbness wears off you will likely have some discomfort, but if your dentist is worth his salt, any pain afterward will be minimal %26amp; he will most likely give you something for the pain.

Above all, TELL your dentist how nervous you are about the procedure. He will reassure you and can explain the process every step of the way.

You'll get through it fine.
Reply:Dentist or orals surgeon will anesthetize the area. Depending on the type of insurance you have, dentist may use gas to slightly sedate you then anesthetize you mouth with an injection. The injections themselves, if done, hurt no more than a small pinch.

The extraction procedure actually does not involve any pulling. The target tooth is actually pushed in to loosen the surrounding bone and periodontal ligaments and the tooth gently comes out!

With adequate pain medication, the whole experience is relatively painless. With all medical or dental procedure, there is always a degree of pain, but this is a necessary price for adequate treatment.
Reply:No it doesn't hurt, you'll feel a pinch from the needle but that's it.
Reply:It depends on the person--my little sister doesn't react well to it, but I've never really had a problem. At the time of the extraction, it just feels odd--not painful. Afterward, when the numbness starts to wear off, there's a dull, persistent sort of pain. It's not fun, but you can make it through! Plan to watch a movie to take your mind off of it and stock the kitchen with some soft foods--hard food won't seem very appetizing afterward. Good luck! :o)
Reply:It hurts but not for a long time. After the anesthesia where's off
Reply:Well lucky for you, you only get two teeth pulled out. When I got mines pulled, it was 6 teeth. And yes, it does hurt. I actually cried because of the pain. My mouth was numb all that night.

I wish you all the luck!

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled Friday, I have a couple of questions..?

I have to get my wisdom teeth pulled. They are not out yet, but underneath my gums. I am getting two pulled, and will be put under while they are taken out.

What will it be like after I get them out?

Will I experience nausea/vomiting afterwards?

Are there any major complications?

Does drinking pineapple juice really help for swelling?

Getting my wisdom teeth pulled Friday, I have a couple of questions..?
The worst part about the experience I can remember, and the most annoying, is: food will get caught back there in the pits, where the teeth use to be. It's a pain for months, but heals up and isn't much of a problem after that. Never had nausea, and didn't have a lot of swelling either. Hope this helps, and good luck. You'll be fine in no time. Just don't smoke or drink from a straw for a little while, it could pop the stitches when you suck on the straw or the cigarette.
Reply:I remember the drugs took a while to wear off, and the first day I couldn't eat and food, besides liquid stuff like applesauce and soup. It did hurt, but I wasn't nauseas, and didn't vomit. I recovered pretty quickly, and was back to normal in just 2 or 3 days.

My sis, though, her mouth got infected, her checks swelled up like a chipmunk. But she had an absess, or some complication that made them have to break the tooth to remove it. It all depends on your situation, your teeth and how grown they are, and if they are tangled in the nerves.
Reply:You may have a little nausea, but it shouldn't be too bad. Vomiting is possible but I'm pretty sure it's rare. There aren't any major complications, you'll just have to be careful with what you eat. Soft foods are best for a week or two afterwards. I've never heard that about pineapple juice so I would say it's not likely that it helps for swelling. Hope this helps!
Reply:If they are infected, you will feel 100 times better when they are out! I know I did! You will be sore for hjust a few days and will have to eat soft foods and I dont think you can drink from a straw. The only nausea I got was from the pain medication (hydrocondone) because it was too strong for me and I asked the dentist to give me another instead and they did. No major complications at all and I would stay away from the pineapple juice. you dont want all that sugar settling on your gums that just had surgery!

i was scared to death since I have never had a surgery before but this was literally nothing, and not that bad :)
Reply:I have not heard of pineapple juice, personally I would think the acid would hurt like hell. The pain will suck, I had all 4 taken at one time. You can deal with it, take the pain meds!!! As soon as you can swallow the next one it helps if you take them before you start hurting. Also you Will only really want to eat like ice cream or jello. So buy it ahead you will not want to go anywhere for a few days after wards.
Reply:Be prepared for discomfort, but unless they have to bust your jaw in two (just kidding), it shouldn't be too bad. They usually give Tylenol 3 with codeine for pain. Several things can occur- yes, you can get stomach trouble from swallowing blood or sometimes pain makes people naseous. Some folks have a queasy reaction after waking from the being put under. Some folks don't or can't do codeine-based stuff- that made me sick more than the discomfort. Use lots of ice packs to keep down the swelling and rest.....don't use aspirin-based products cause it will make the bleeding worse. Stay away from carbonated drinks, drinks with citrus(it may sting).Don't smoke- it can give you dry socket- which REALLY hurts! East soft foods and rinse your mouth with warm salt water- it will help heal the wounds. Don't anticipate the worst, however, I've known folks who breezed through it with out a hitch! Good luck to you!
Reply:It is different for every person, but it depends on your oral surgeon and their techniques, and how you take care of yourself afterwards. the peak of swelling is usually 2-3 days after surgery and goes down afterwards. use ice packs right when you get home and for the next few days. in a few days use warms packs, warm compress to improve circulation around your face and will help bring down swelling. your doctor may prescribe an antibiotic and pain reliever. do not take both meds at the same time just in case you may be allergic to one of them. if you are taking vicodin get the NON generic med. works better than the generic. take only 1/2 tab first after you've had some food. hour later if you need, take the other half. as for major complications...dry socket. to avoid, make sure you follow all instructions the doctor gives you! do not use straws for a week and do not do excessive lifting or exercising. if you bleed a little bit the next few days after surgery, that is totally fine. as for the pineapple juice, we tell our patients to avoid it because it may sting the extraction sites...ouch! never heard about it to help with swelling. hope that helps!!

Does getting teeth pulled hurt?

im only 12 and i have to get braces SOON and so the orthodontist said that i have to get 4 baby teeth pulled and im just scared because i hate needles does it really hurt that bad?

help!!!

Does getting teeth pulled hurt?
As a dentist myself I can assure you that you have nothing to worry about. Your dentist will give you an injection of Lidocaine in your gums that will block the nerve from feeling pain. The shot only feels like a small pinch and its over before you even know it. The only thing you will feel during the extraction is some pressure as your dentist pulls and pushes to loosen your tooth. Good luck and don't worry, you will be just fine!
Reply:It depends, on your doctor I mean. My doctor is gentle, and he gives me laughing gas. Ha, it actually works. I had 2 teeth pulled and it didn't hurt one bit. I wish you Good Luck. Report It

Reply:Don't be scared. It's not gonna hurt that bad as long as your ortho knows what he's doing.

You may feel a tickling sensation but afterwards you'll be numb as hell boy.
Reply:Nope, they will numb you and you may feel pressure, but no pain what so ever. I had to have 1 of my back teeth pulled and it didn't even hurt. I just felt a bit of pressure in the gum area and then I actually felt a heep of relief after the tooth was gone. (It felt soooooo much better!)

When I got home I had a perscription pain reliever, and I took one as soon as I got home because I was scared of pain, but when I woke up the next morning and felt a small bit of pain where the tooth was and in my jaw, but it wasn't overbearing enough to take a pain pill.

Don't worry, you'll be just fine, and I swear, it won't be bad at all. You can have them give you "Gas" (Just ask for gas and they'll know what you mean.) and that will help ease your nerves also.
Reply:The dentist will make sure it doesn't hurt while getting them extracted, and it helps that they are baby teeth, they do not have roots to hurt.

daAnswer ... You just said H*** to a 12 year old. Not nice :)
Reply:he will put numbing stuff on it to make it hurt less

or maybe laughing gass
Reply:yes
Reply:Yes! Yes! It definitely does hurt. But that's just a tiny little price you have to pay for vanity. Guess, it's worth it! Pretty teeth from now on ;D
Reply:noppee, especially if their baby teeth, it wont hurt. they will numb you first, you'll feel pulling, but you wont feel any pain.

if you had to get adult teeth pulled, yes, it would hurt a lot more, because those are the teeth your stuck with for your life, but since their your baby teeth, you were going to loose them anyway, so it wont hurt as bad.

i had a reallyy ugly rotten tooth when i was younger(like around the age of 4). and i had to get it pulled, but it didnt hurt at all..they will numb you so dont worry about it=]

good luck!
Reply:nope doesn't hurt at all... they numb your gums before they stick you with the needle... it always helps me to close my eyes so I don't see it coming. if you see the needle that makes it worse. you will be fine
Reply:the truth is yes it can hurt. and some doctors act like they really don't care because it isn't hurting them.

the secret is when you get into the chair and the doctor comes in , ask to please have the gum numbed with gel so the needle won't hurt.

pain is relative some people seem to feel it more than others. i know a lady who has had teeth pulled and root canals done with no form of pain relief.

.
Reply:The only thing that hurts is the shot of novocaine they give you before. But if they give you happy gas before that, you'll be too high to care.
Reply:I had to get 2 teeth pulled out before i got my braces on to and i was terrified but i promise you it does not hurt one but the needle feels like he is pushing on your gum and that is it dont worry aanymore i promise you its fine and my teth were baby teeth and he said one of them was the hardest tooth he has ever had to get out and that didnt hurt dont worry any longer i promise
Reply:It all depends on the dentist.
Reply:Not at all! I had my tooth pulled right before I got my braces and I was also worried. They give one little shot that you can't feel at all. The worst part is after, because your mouth is sensitive just eat soft foods like Jello

Getting 4 teeth pulled for braces?

Hey, I am going to get 4 teeth pulled for braces and I was wondering if it hurts when they do it. I heard people had open sockets (what's that?) and holes in their gums... Is there unbearable pain? How long does it hurt? Can I eat my reg. foods?

Getting my teeth pulled what should i ask the surgeons before i ask the appointment ?

prices, recovery time, payment plans, i need info i've never had to get my teeth pulled before....

i guess i dont know what to expect....

Getting my teeth pulled what should i ask the surgeons before i ask the appointment ?
Ask for Novocaine, not a general anesthetic that will knock you out. With a general anesthetic, you'll be in a lot of pain from the second you wake up. With Novocaine it takes a while.

Also ask about pain medication for later. They're overly, overly cautious about giving it to you for long enough to really take care of the pain. It contains codeine, which can be addictive, but really isn't addictive in such low doses. Recreational users take such large doses that they do become addicted.
Reply:General anaesthetic or sedation? Medications needed afterward? Time needed to take off work/school? Need someone to drive you there or not? Proper cleaning and care afterward?
Reply:find out if you have to take penicillin a week before you get them pulled, along with your other concerns.i am sure you will do fine.dont be scared.

Ughhhh........im getting a spacer to widen my mouth........will that hurt?

im also getting braces....will those hurt? And what is there to expect?

Im also getting 4 teeth pulled out,on the same day. Will that hurt?Whats the procedure???

Help!!!!

Getting 4 teeth pulled out, braces, and a spacer to widen my mouth.....will it hurt????
I had 4teeth out for my brace, i got put alseep so i dont remember having it done but what i can remember it wasnt to sore after wards, bit achy tho!

Getting braces dont hurt they can be a bit sensitive when they first go on when there tightened %26amp; they can ache a bit after wards but its not anythink bad!

As for the spacer i havent got a clue!

Hope all goes well tho
Reply:OMG your like already dead. Your braces will hrt soooo much i got them also and spacers the rubber band kind and the one that goes on the roof of your mouth. They suck omg i feel bad for you. it will take about 2 or 3 weeks so the pain will go away.
Reply:I'm assuming you're getting your wisdom teeth pulled, and braces put on. From what i've heard, braces can hurt to have them put on, but some pepole it doesn't hurt.

As for having a tooth pulled, it's the few days after ward that hurt.... just the healing process.

Don't worry too much, in a week or two, it will all be over with.

(I'm getting two of my wisdom's pulled tomorrow.... aaaahhhhhhrrrrhhhhhh!!!!)
Reply:it is very painful, not gonna lie, but well worth it in the end!
Reply:braces hurt a bit for about 1-3 weeks (I don' have them, I'm getting them, this is what my friends say)

as for the teeth pulled- I've gotten a crown, which is supposedly more painful, and I didn't feel a thing. Admittedly it was pretty sore afterwards, but it went away pretty quick.

Spacer? Never heard of it, lol...

Over all, I think you'll be fine, don't worry, if you are, bring a cd-player, or an ipod. I listened to twilight by stephenie meyer when I got my crown on, it kept my mind off the process. Twilight is really intriguing the first time around.
Reply:Getting a spacer to widen your mouth will probably hurt. Getting braces will also hurt too. Expect more pain to correct your teeth alingments. Pain will have to come into effect and eat a lot of soft things.
Reply:A BIT BUT IS NOT INTOLERABLE

My child had her front teeth pulled, how long will it take for her new teeth to grow in?

my daughter had her front two teeth pulled, because she fell at the playground and hit her teeth. They were not ready to fall out. How long should it take for her new teeth to grow in? She is 6 1/2 years old.

My child had her front teeth pulled, how long will it take for her new teeth to grow in?
How fast your childs teeth come out depends on weather or not they are visible yet, family history and her own body's particular eruption pattern. If the adult teeth are already visiple they will have an easier time erupting. I've had some kids come through the practice where the skin heals over the adult teeth. The adult teeth can't push throught the skin, because the child is using the skin to do a bit of chewing so it thickens. In these cases I have to physically expose the adult teeth so the eruption force can move the teeth into position.

In my practice the average age of eruption is 6 1/2 to 7 yrs

But I do get the odd kid that comes though with centrals at 5 1/2 or 8 1/2 at the outer limits.
Reply:It will grow in some time. It will take a little time to fully grow. I still remember when i got that about 12 years back.
Reply:If you are referring to her upper central incisors then the "normal" age is 7.5 - 8.5years. Extraction of her deciduous teeth will probably hasten them by 3-4 months.
Reply:maybe a few months or almost a year
