I am a 30 yr old black female who really needs to get a bottom wisdom tooth out asap. It causes me great pain off and on, and was told that it is now lying down horizontally, pushing away out the poor tooth next to it. Furthermore, it is crossing a nerve which if damaged during the extraction could mean %26quot;peace out%26quot; to the feeling on the left side of my lower lip.
So of course I%26#039;m freaking out! I can%26#039;t imagine going through all this crap; pain b4 surgery, pain during surgery, pain after surgery. All so that I can end up a numb numb for the rest of my life. Hate to sound like a baby, but with all the advancements in todays health industry there%26#039;s gotta be a way around this! Right??? So listen, any and just about all advice is much appreciated from those of you who have pulled teeth and especially from those of you who pull teeth, in fact even those of you who know people who have pulled teeth or who pull teeth...yes the pain is getting to my head. Anyone know a good surgeon in MTL?
Wisdom tooth pulling?
Is the tooth impacted, or just have a cavity? I had my first 3 out (impacted) and I was knocked out for it, didn%26#039;t feel a thing except a little soreness after I came to. My fourth I just had out about a month ago (cavity) and they did NOT knock me out, I was pretty scared, but other than the shot (which wasn%26#039;t bad) I didn%26#039;t feel a thing and again, just a little sore after wards.
Reply:There is no real pain associated with that. You get a good freezing that last for 2-3 hours. afterward normal pain killer really manage the pain.
The chance of unsuspected nerve damage leading to permanent numbning is extremely small (lower than 1:100 000) there is a few case in litterature. However, for some some teeth we know a parasthesia will occur because the tooth surround and grab the nerve. Your dentist can tell you about that during the consultation appointment.
Dr Huan Pham is an awesome oral surgeon in Montreal.
He does the job fast and well done. He is not a great talker though.
Reply:I had all 3 wisdom teeth pulled out at the same time when I turned 18 (that was 10 years ago). My last wisdom tooth is still intact and it%26#039;s not coming down. Yes, it%26#039;s still in my jaw.
Anyhow, to answer your answer. My suggestion is when you do pull out your wisdom tooth, ask the dentist to just knock you out completely. When you wake up, all you feel is a large cotton ball in your mouth and receive a small treasure chest with your wisdom tooth in it. LOL. It only takes a few days to heal. In the mean time, just eat chicken noodle soup or yogurt so you don%26#039;t have to chew.
You%26#039;ll be okay. I was so nervous when I went in, but I opted to be knocked out. You may have to pay extra for that, but it was so worth it. I didn%26#039;t want to see anything or hear anything. That was the best part of it all. Good luck!
