Pulling a cats baby teeth?

When I took Caesar {a ragdoll} in to the vets to be neutered the vet said that the cat still had his baby fangs and to keep a watch for his adult fangs to come in. OR I would have to bring the cat back and they would have to pull his baby fangs. Why didn%26#039;t the teeth fall out on their own and what can I do with out putting the cat through this? Caesar is now 7 months.

Pulling a cats baby teeth?
Kitten teeth fall out between 6-8 months. Keep an eye on them- make sure the gums aren%26#039;t swollen or red. They will normally fall out on their own. If he has teething problems or is chewing on things, you can buy some %26quot;baby%26quot; Anbesol and rub it on his gums to numb it and help with the anxiety. Hope he%26#039;s OK. If the gums do get red or swollen they might get infected and might need antibiotics, see a vet immediately.
Reply:Get an opinion from another vet. Just like you would do for yourself if you did not agree with the doctor you see.

Hope this helps,

Andrea
Reply:Your vet is right. You don%26#039;t want her adult teeth to come in with her baby teeth. Just keep an eye on it and hope they fall out before she gets her adult teeth.
Reply:The teeth will grow in by themselves. Just like in humans. Unless your cat develops eating problems I wouldn%26#039;t worry about it. Just keep an eye on the teeth, if the gums around the teeth start to swell I would take him back to see if he needs to have them extracted. As always, before any surgery I would get a second opinion.
Reply:Sometimes their teeth can be stubborn just like humans. If you%26#039;re concerned, get a second opinion as suggested and keep an eye on him.

One thing to keep in mind is that if he does need to have them pulled, the vet will sedate him. So he won%26#039;t be awake and it won%26#039;t bother him for too long once he%26#039;s awake. He%26#039;ll be eating fine very soon, but you can give him soft food for a while.

Several of my cats have had to have teeth pulled, and they all tolerated the anesthesia and surgery very well. They have all been on dry food their whole lives, which helps to keep their teeth clean, but I have never had one that would let me brush his teeth.

Best wishes.
