Had braces on for 3 years, but orthodontist says i need to pull out teeth?

my orthodontist put braces on me for about 3 years and he was thinking i%26#039;d have enough room to straighten up my teeth. my teeth looks straight and it looks fine to me, except my top teeth are a bit big and so i kind of have the top teeth protruding out by a little. so after 3 YEARS he asks me if i would like to pull out 4 teeth. he says it would look much more better but i dont really wanna pull out 4 teeth and go through a long time to close up the gaps. so im not sure if i should risk pulling out teeth. what do you guys think?

It is hard to have braces for a long time. This is a hard decision to make. However some things to consider are with proper spacing and aligned teeth you will have an easier time keeping the spaces in between your teeth clean and this will help prevent cavities in between the teeth. It sounds like your teeth are probably really tight right now and that is why he is recommending this. The only draw back is the extra time in the braces and the pain of having the teeth taken out. Also to consider do you want to have teeth that slightly protrude after the three years you put into the braces. It probably will not take nearly that long to close these spaces and get you out of the braces. Also I want to mention that if you have your orthodontist go ahead with this you wisdom teeth when they come in if they have not already are not likely to ruin all the hard work. But if you are concerned about having heard this ask you orthodontist about it. I highly recommend you confirm with your orthodontist anything you are told and get his opinion.
Reply:I am not sure it would take a long time for the gap to close. My son had 2 teeth pulled in January and his gaps are closing nicely already.
Reply:If you are happy with the way your teeth look and there is no real danager in leaving the teeth where they are, then I would leave well enough alone.
Reply:I hear your pain as I was 24 when I started brace%26#039;s and had teeth pulled. Then he just twisted my teeth back and forth. At 28 and pregnant I made him take them off. Told me I was testy in my new condition. I told him I was testy in my old condtion take them off now!!!! It really depends on your age and how long you want to deal with it. Yes if you don%26#039;t take them out you could have buck teeth unless your mouth will grow. and it won%26#039;t take that long for the gaps. None of it is fine but if you have started it. I would finish it. hopeing it does%26#039;t cost more money. You didn%26#039;t go threw 3 years for nothing. not to have buck teeth of some others sticking out.
Reply:This Is A Tricky Question......... I Would Ask This If The Same Thing Happened To Me.........3 Years Thats A Long Time Have You Had That Done To You Before? ......... If Not Maybe You Could Try .................But You Don%26#039;t Have To If You Don%26#039;t Want To............
Reply:How OLD are you ? Have your wisdom teeth come through? I wouldn%26#039;t let any dentist pull out perfectly good teeth until all of my adult teeth came through. Braces won%26#039;t do any good if your wisdoms come in crooked and after you have the braces taken out. If you still have baby teeth then, yes, those should eventually come out so the adults can come in. Get xrays first to determine if the adult teeth are actually underneath the babies and they will the general direction of the adults. These orthodontists nowdays are always after your money -- they slap braces in 12 and 13 year olds knowing full and well that these kids will have to keep coming back well into their adulthood to get their teeth %26#039;fixed%26#039; even further. Since you have your braces already, are these teeth they want to pull blocking any other teeth or causing any problems ? You could always get a second and third opinion from other orthos. Plus, if youreally want to keep those teeth then don%26#039;t let the dentist talk you into pulling them out. I changed dentists once because mine got angry at me for wanting to keep my healthy teeth ! I have a dentist now who is no-pressure and provides me with advise and treatment options.
