Smoking after Wisdom Teeth Pulled?

I just had my wisdom teeth pulled. All four of them were impacted. The doctor said no smoking for 24 hours after the surgery, and it has been over 24 hours. But my husband says I still shouldn't. Could I still get dry socket? Is it worth the risk?

Smoking after Wisdom Teeth Pulled?
Wait another 24 hours. I know that it sucks, but it is sooo much better than a dry socket. I had my first two taken out a few years ago and got a dry socket. Its not worth it - I promise. I am so grateful that I didn't get a dry socket on the last go around.
Reply:I'm just glad that you were able to get it done. Good luck!!! Report It

Reply:Thanks to you a child is going to get cancer from 2nd hand smoke, congratulations for killing a child everyday. Report It

Reply:wow honey its not worth the risk

wait an extra day

I got mine taken out a couple years ago and they were so deep in my mouth I had craters where they used to be for 6 months-I kid you not.

so gross, I had to clean the holes with q-tips :P

take it easy dear :)
Reply:u can still get a dry socket and they are not hard to get and they are definatly NOT worth the risk!! i know its hard but i would not smoke!!! dry sockets are the worst!!! good luck girl
Reply:if you havent' smoked for 24 hours...why pick another one up. If I could do that I'd have it made. RESIST!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:i saw yesterday u were getting that done! no, don't smoke or you will be in for trouble. don't use straws either. wait as long as you can...you should just quit smoking anyway.... :) I had all mine pulled a few years ago plus a couple months ago I had a molar pulled....drink lots of fluids and keep your mouth clean! (somebody doesn't like our answers! could it be a smoker?!) Jeez , if it means that much to you go light up a coffin nail!
Reply:No it's not worth the risk, the pain of a dry socket is unbelieveable. I know cos I didn't take the advice of the dentist. I know it's hard work and takes self control but give it another few hours.

Hope you get a good nights sleep x
Reply:not worth it...i had developed dry sockets after having my 4 teeth pulled one day and it was unpleasant
Reply:Your husband is right. I'd wait 72hrs. You'll know pain if you don't. lol.
Reply:When you smoke you create a partial vacuum in your mouth so the smoke flows into it. This could cause your damaged gingiva to bleed when you need to just let it heal

If you must get your nicotine fix,

I recommend that you stick the end of the cigarette in your nose, hold the other nostril closed with your finger, and breathe normally, the smoke will definately enter your lungs.

BTW, do not insert the lit end!
Reply:Well i was 17 when i had all 4 of mine pulled, and i smoked gingerly right after i came out mouth filled with gauz and all. I was a big chainsmoker, and went to a few smokes a day, so a big change for me..

but no i didnt get dry sockets, or anymore blood ozing than normal..

though i still wouldnt recommend it.
Reply:ask him if his life is that important to him...lol

Reply:all i know is my cousin had dry socket cause she drank a milkshake after getting hers done and she was miserable. i wouldnt chance it until you know for sure that you are all healed up! just my humble opinion though...
Reply:Smoking isn't worth the risk. But if it's been over 24 hours and the doctor said you could....

But don't worry, in a few years when you lose your esophagus from cancer you'll get a tracheotomy and you could smoke through that.

Or maybe you should just go to Mars and breathe carbon dioxide there, it's free and you won't be affecting millions of lives that way.
