Im 17 and all of my wisdom teeth have come in. My top ones came in straight, but one on the bottom came in crooked and killed when it started coming in. I know I will have to get that one pulled but what about the top. They didnt affect my teeth at all and they felt fine coming in, but ive heard they can cause infection if they dont get pulled? Id prefer not to because of cost and pain and what not. But anyway what do you think?
Should I still get my wisdom teeth pulled even if they grow in straight?
If the dentist feels they should be pulled now, I'd let them pull them. It's better to get it done earlier than later, and healing is easier now than getting them removed in ten years.
They might not be causing problems now, but they can later.
Reply:A lot of times, wisdom teeth will rot even after they've come in straight. That's why most dentists recommend having them removed either way. You can always wait and see, but they rot from the inside out, so it can cause a lot of pain/infection issues.
Reply:Wisdom teeth don't necessarily cause infection just because they don't get pulled. Your body created them, and they're part of you -- they're not going to cause an infection on their own -- something else would have to happen to cause an infection.
See your dentist when you go for your regular cleaning, he or she may decide to pull them (some do -- because they're harder to reach when cleaning, or because they could potentially put pressure on other teeth), others prefer to leave them in, as long as there are no problems.
Reply:Coming in straight or crooked isn't the only concern. The real problem is shether or not your mouuh has enough space to handle the extra teeth - usually not.
I had all four of mine come in straight, no problems, no bleeding, nothing, just occasional pain where my lower jaw attaches to my skull. Turns out, I didn't have enough room for both tops and bottoms to come in fully and seat, so they were pushing each other back into my gums. Long story short - pulled one from top and one from bottom. Done. No surgery, took 5 minutes for each one with a shot of novacaine and a little pry bar.
Reply:as long as they came in straight and aren't crowding your other teeth they will be fine, my dad still has his top wisdom teeth at the age of 50 and he has never had a problem with them.
Reply:I got mine pulled at 35. Dentist said they came in straight and looked fine, but I had cavities in all of them. He said people just can't get back there with a brush so it's easier to have them pulled than to worry about them rotting.
Reply:I think you should get advice about that from your dentist.
